Government to find common ground with UDD over pardon bill amendment

BANGKOK, 29 January 2013 (NNT)-Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubamrung expressed his opinion that the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) group had the rights to express its political views but urged them not to break the laws.

Following the UDD’s recent visit to the parliament to submit a letter demanding the amendment of the amnesty bill, Police Captain Chalerm said the group had stated in the letter that they wanted freedom of expressions under the democratic system assured in the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister said he did not feel pressured by the request, adding that the government would by no means use force against the UDD under any circumstances. He urged them not to raid the government buildings or cause public disturbances in their effort to have the amnesty bill amended.

Meanwhile, he responded to the Opposition Party's claiming the amendment would be in violation of the Charter law that he would find a common ground over the matter and raise public awareness of the situation.

Been hitting the juice again Mr. DPM? So let me get this straight. If these red thugs again blockade the business district of Bangkok, invade hospitals, burn shopping centers and city halls, have at it my dear red friends we will by no means use force against you. You are free to burn, loot and destroy at will. What a guy.

The red shirts who broke criminal laws are afraid and will do anything to avoid jail, Pathetic.

They should follow the example of their cowardly leader and flee the country.

By the way, I predict Sonthi Limthongkun will flee Thailand soon.

When the previous PM asked the red shirts not to break the law, the red shirts ended up bringing out their armed militia.

Red Shirt group demands amnesty for political prisoners

By Digital Media

BANGKOK, Jan 29 – A group of Red Shirt activists rallied at Government House today, demanding the government’s promulgation of a law to grant amnesty to political prisoners held since the 2006 against the then government of Thaksin Shinawatra.

Led by Suda Rangkupan, a lecturer in Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Arts, the group said the detainees had fought to protect democracy and deserved freedom.

Calling on the government to urgently issue legislation to provide an amnesty for the detainees, the group was met by Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung who promised to give their proposal to the Council of State for further consideration.

The protestors said they disagreed with Mr Chalerm, considering his action a brush off, saying they would carry on their rally at the nearby Royal Plaza and return to Government House this evening expecting to hear a more concrete reply.

They threatened to upgrade their activity to what they termed as a “permanent rally” if they failed to get a satisfactory response rom the government.

Mr Chalerm said Parliament is authorised to endorse an amnesty bill and that a reconciliation bill should be more realistic than a royal decree on amnesty as demanded by the Red Shirt activists.

When a royal decree is issued, some individuals petition the Constitution Court which predictably ends with the court nullifying the decree, he said. (MCOT online news)

"They threatened to upgrade their activity to what they termed as a “permanent rally” if they failed to get a satisfactory response from the government"

No problem for DPM Chalerm. During last year's Pitak Siam rally he had arranged 50,000 police officers, water cannons and a hundred prisoner transport trucks. Over 100 arrests within 3 hours after the rally kicked of.

For sure DPM Chalerm will treat these red shirts the same as last year's non-red shirts.

Of course he will. No double standards allowed.
government would by no means use force against the UDD under any circumstances

Now those troublesome Pitak Siam supporters are a different matter of course rolleyes.gif

Correct. The red shirts broke the law and now they demand amnesty because they were part of a rally organised by Thaksin.

They must understand that they are not political prisoners. They are people who were brainwashed to commit criminal acts in order to whitewash a criminal politician.

Authorised to endore 'an' amnesty bill, or 'a' reconciliation bill? Didn't we need a referendum first? Who authorised parliament to endore such a bill? Would Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm care to elaborate a bit on possible bill contents?

The last sentence doesn't make sense at all. Probably some theNation drivel rolleyes.gif

How long before the reds realise that they were used, and this government can't and won't do anything to help them? How long before the government realise they can't control the reds like before?

Or possibly it was after lunch with some dear friends and he was a bit, shall we say, confused.

Many a moon ago many people prophesied that Thaksin would have problems when his pawns realized those crumbs and the cheap rhetoric they were fed by Thaksin and his and his cronies were nothing more than cheap gimcrack baubles to get the Red Shirt movement involved in Thaksins return to power ploy.

Well the pawns suffered the most in death and injury and imprisonment whilst those Red Shirt leaders and agitators who led from the back filled their back pockets with Thaksins money and secured sinecures in parliament as their purse for deluding the pawns..

Now it seems as if some of the more ardent perhaps even erudite pawns are coming to see the truth and are now asking for compensation for their fellow members in the form of an amnesty deal having seen the pockets of their leaders (?) filed to overflowing .

Mr. Chalerm is now in an amusing position as the account is being rendered for payment.by the Red Shirt pawns

Can he, does he let civil disorder rule the day, does he propose a general amnesty for all involved and will the puppet master in Dubai let his puppet maladministration to do this ?

When one lies down with the dogs one gets the dogs fleas, Thaksin and Chalerm must be getting a little irritated now..

Keeps ones friends close but keep your enemies closer Thaksin.

As an aside apart from the police in the O.P. image it seems as if a number of military personnel are also involved in monitoring proceedings ( note the purple neckerchiefs) interesting detail.

The pictures of the Pitak Siam rally at Royal Plaza November 2012 had pictures of police with blue, purple and greenish 'neckerchiefs'. I don't think any of them were Military personel.

Chalerm is in a big bind. "Caught between a rock and a hard place." All along, the Red shirts thought Thaksin had their back. May be now they see who this Thaksin guy really is. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Personally, I don't see how Thaksin can ignor the reds and will try to appease them with his B S.

As I posted previously Thaksin with do his usual thing and throw the red mob a few bones to keep them pacified until he needs them to be canon fodder once again.

Exactly the ones in black uniforms were from the border police. A quick look on Google makes for interesting reading. They have been linked to various nefarious acts... oh and Seah dang (not sure of spelling) was linked to them and stated that HIS black shirts came from their ranks.

The answer to the first part of your post on how long the reds will serve Thaksin (the government) is until they get a decent education and learn to reason.wai2.gif

That is also easy as long as they continue to put there eggs into a basket powered by photo ops and ear medicine probably for ever. They will still call the shots but not with as idolizing reverent worship as before. Thaksin has lost his polish and the halo is around the bridge of his nose but with the education of his followers he is still in controlsad.png .

Short while back was watching the news on Thai PBS and yes the purple neckerchief were visible and indeed they were policemen.

The natives are getting restless. K Thaksin needs to throw them another bone.

Either of these two Red Shirts might be in store then for Cabinet positions...

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Who then deserted them - gullible fools!!!!

The reds have fulfilled their purpose and can now be discarded. They should have known that when the rice scheme meant to benefit them did not; only the gov's mates.

The real bad news for the reds is that this time the police will support the gov.

Goodnite and bye bye, coz without someone's cash, they are finished.

Fools.

On the other hand, it's only two-and-a-half years to the next election, assuming that the current government goes the full-term, so perhaps they will be needed again and are therefore worth humouring ?

What will Thaksin PM-Yingluck decide ?

"Chalerm.......... urged them not to break the laws."

This is now, and very, very different circumstances to 2010 when anything was acceptable as political expression. Hypocrite.

The several articles covering this story not one of the red supporters has of yet offered their enlighten opinion. Come on boys give us the real truth in all of this.

The several articles covering this story not one of the red supporters has of yet offered their enlighten opinion. Come on boys give us the real truth in all of this.

Thing is, to use an example:

Say, if (in my delicious dreams) the mighty spurs thrashed arsenal 6 - 0 then the gunner's fans are hardly likely to want to, or be able to comment on it (to show their team in a favourable light after such an abject showing), are they!!!!

It seems then, that the red shirt supporters have simply chosen not to comment on this topic to avoid being ridiculed as their case is so weak and indefencible.

Maybe they are all on another visa run. But you are correct there is no defence for the indefensible.
