Wrong, this is not about women, but about things you bought tongue.png

I bought a lawn mower at 14.00.

Sales guy said "if problem first week we will give you new one".

Thus cut half the grass same day afternoon.

Next morning wanting to cut the other half no way to start the engine.

Brought the thing back to the shop around 11 am (50kms one way trip)

No sales guys to be found (they were two the day before)

After asking around, telephone calls were made, one declared sick, number two was not to be found anywhere.

Were told to get some lunch somewhere.

Came back at 14.00.

Still no one present from that specific brand.

Finally around 3pm some sales guys of other brand dismounted the mower and found a loose ignition wire.

Bought a fridge, Hitachi R-400WP, no frost, nano technology (whatever that means) size 400 liters, paid 20k baht

Finally replaced this by a Samsung RL4013UBASL/ST this week.

Hitachi fridge worked fine for some years, then things began to break inside, then the light gave up, no big deal, then the two outside handles disintegrated slowly.

OK, still possible to open doors without pulling existent handles.

Then my electricity consumption raised 20% during 2012, wondering and checking.

That Hitachi fridge would run 24h, tried to find an electricity consumption meter to plug in, could not locate a shop.

Thus after 8 years bought this new Samsung and checking electricity consumption daily, so far so good.

I recall having bought my first fridge in Belgium when I was 27 and my second 30 years later.

Bought 4 in the ten years living in LOS, One is only 1 year young for our Thai kitchen and the newest one week.

The first one was a small 6k baht ice producing thing, got rid of the ice-maker all together.

Any one want a good Hitachi no frost, nano technology, 400 liters fridge?

Asking price only 5k baht.

I won't mention all the things they did wrong building our house, I spare you that, or the broken furniture, or other appliances.

I would like to read how long they last, the thing you buy here biggrin.png

Oh, I had two PC's assembled in Thailand, no more of this crap, thank you.

But I did buy one PC some day in Luxemburg from a German well known PC maker.

Picked it up from the shop at 18.00, tried it out at home that evening, Hard disk gave up after two hours.

Brought it back next day at lunch time.

Shop owner asked me if I dropped the thing?

Replied: yest, tested how strong your PC's are: opened the window of my second floor apartment and threw it out, strong case, but the innards, no good.

Sarcasm not appreciated. Got a new HD by 6pm same day.

Never met a Thai who could understand sarcasm or a joke (explained how crappy my Hitachy fridge is to the guy trying to sell the new fridge, he did not get any of it)

Mixed feeling on how thing last here.....

Mixed to mostly bad on how things are repaired here...

My main problems were Pumps for the Fish Ponds, and Fans.. 1 st few years appeared to need a new pump a few days after the 6 months were up, have 6, so 2 - 2600 baht each every 7 months x 6 was getting very expensive......... Fed up took one to bits 2 years ago, easy fix plastic spindle inside had snapped, new motor with spindle cost 250 baht, so never bought another pump in last 2 years + have a few as spare...

Fans, hate Air Con and never use have 6 fans around the house, again after the magic 6 months would fail... again took to bits that was about 5 years ago... now every 2 months take to bits, clean and oil both bearings, couple still did not work or not good, so a new motor cost 230 baht.. sure beats paying 1,700 baht for another fan...

Bought Microwave Combi in Central in 2003. went wrong a few years ago, took it to bits one element was blown, managed to get a a replacement well got 2 and replaced them both. still works fine + 10 years old...

Fridge and washing machines now nothing about, one of my big twin door fridges packed up, had someone come and fix, this has been repaired now 3 times, think time to replace that one as appears to be running 24/7 and not that cold, the other one is much colder inside.

Repairs here appear to be a hit and miss affair, washing machine started to play up, has been fixed 4 times, and no better, bought a new one, try the old one every so often for the dogs stuff, will work fine the suddenly the water will not drain out, mostly on the final spin........

PC I normally rebuild or repair myself, 2 weeks ago something odd, No Monitor Keyboard or Mouse, no idea so took it to PC repairman, 300 baht worked fine for 2 days, then back again, good for 3 days......... took it to bits myself, swapping the Graphics card [had another 9800 GT card upstairs] now works fine..

Oddly only replaced 1 x light bulb in 10 years..

As for "I won't mention all the things they did wrong building our house" if I had known at the time would have had the shell built only and done the rest myself. .. all repairs to house as well as what is inside I do myself, kitchen I built myself, now 10 years old and still perfect, oddly no idea why others in the Village most of there Kitchen have come away from the house, and must get a builder come ever couple of years to fix, fill the cracks, stop water pouring in...

Lenovo laptop: 13 months before various keys stopped working. In the trash.

Pioneer DVD Player: 2 years, smoked and melted. (Pioneer when I was a kid was great)

Toshiba TV (rarely used) 3 years before it turns on and off at will.

Slow Cooker: broke first use

Seagull pots and pans: Handles loosened permantly first week.

The list could go on forever.

I did buy a Compton all latex mattress. Very nice, but then, no moving parts. Well, not in the matress.

Lawn mowers??? Try this..VB Engines (Bangkok) who supply Briggs and Stratton Engines in there Craftsman ride -on Mowers charge 5000baht for replacement blades. I get the same blades for 500baht from US. With airfrieght and delivered in 5-6 days, they are still less than half what V.B. Engines charge

and then they(V.B. Engines) charge freight on top to deliver.

You cant buy a ride-on from there much under 200,000, but just a bit up the road you can buy the same mower (but different colour) for less than half that.

Cant buy a Starter cog, have to buy the whole starter motor 150,000 baht (V.B. Engines). had cog delivered from overseas, 150 baht, put on starter and it has never stoped since.(Even the cog was not correct from V.B. Engines Starter, after buying complete one from them) he supplied a plastic one 16tooth, when i received from overseas 14tooth problem solved.

If you deal with them V.B. Engines, divide his price by about 10 and you have the actual price you should be paying.

Get my drift?

I had more toasters than I can count until I went to one shop and they gave me a written guarantee. That one has worked for over 2 years!!

Washing machine bought from BigC - Samsung. I've had that for 6 years with no problems.

Fridge freezer - Sanyo - now 5 years old or so and never had a problem.

LG tv over 6 years. One problem with that after a brownout. Repaired and worked fine ever since.

Fans .... many many failures. They usually start clacking as they move from side to side or the blades spin slower and slower.

PC's. Had the odd component failure but that is to be expected. Replaced the components myself.

Microwave - Samsung - had that well over 5 years too and never a problem.

Wait........

Now I've said how well they all work I'd better start saving my Baht to replace them laugh.png

Panasonic Video recorder/Player. from UK, so now 15 or 16 years old still works fine and remote, hooked up to TV now and still records the odd things, bought same model here lasted 2 years, before smoked and melted..

DVD players, OK cheap but really last 2 years.

Yep pots and pans: Handles loosen, or break off even on expensive ones.. oddly have 1x frying pan and 2x pots from UK, used a lot bought in 1991, so over 22 years old.

After Floods [so December time 2011] bought a good name ?? Bosch power jet washer, that one has been returned 3 times waiting now for a call to say it is fixed........ Silly ? bought another same make and model 6 weeks ago, as need one used every other day, already playing up.... next house in Village have a made in China one, much cheaper and still works fine !!!

Why do some things here not last ? Often wonder if it would not be better to buy made in China much cheaper, and use till it packs up and buy another new one... think in the long run it may work out cheaper., a good Brand one expects to last, is that not why your paying double the price.?

Over the years have had a few failures, small electronic goods, few tv s etc, but usually after several years. Floor and desk fans are another matter, the bearings are usually the cheapest available and can fail, for me, after a couple of months. Have got to the stage where I re-oil them every 'when I remember'.

A couple of months ago the microwave oven packed up, interior light on and turntable turning, but no heating. I really expected it to last a lot longer, made in Japan by Toshiba, and it cost me more than $500. yes 500 US dollars, no typo.

Of course that was back in 1985 in Japan. Used for a few years in Japan with transformer (its a 220v model), then almost daily here. I wonder if the new one will last as long. If it does it could well outlast me.

I have given up on repairs that I can't do myself. Cheap replacement works for me.

A German friend of mine said it best : " Die reparieren hier alles kaputt " tongue.png
