Following a very useful tip in another thread I started tolook into the cost of unaccompanied bags.

Can anyone help make sense of the rates page of http://ptcargo.com/en/rates/index.php

IATA RATES Carrier ORG DES Rating Effective MIN -45 +45 +100 +250 +300 +500 +1000 FSC CSC CODE

IATA BKK AKL A 1/1/13-31/3/13 1,000.00 224.00 168.00 168.00 168.00 168.00 168.00 168.00 GCR

sorry about the formatting - it is better if you look at the page I linked blink.png

Your link only gives the blank form.

Here's a screenshot. I am trying to understand the -45 +45 etc and what the price really is.post-122054-0-32901900-1359692597_thumb.

-45 is the number of units from 1 to 44; +45 is the number of units from 45 to 99

224 is the price per unit up to 44 ; 168 is the price per unit up to 99

I had to ship to luggage to Russia 2y ago and my freight company (Swiss based) told me that they measure the volume in cubic centimeteres and did weight the parcel. Then they converted the volume into kg by dividing with 6'000.

Example: Freight is 150kg, volume is 1mx1mx1m= 1Mio cubic centimeter; 1'000'000/600 = 166.6kg

=> you will be charged with 166.6 units (kg), as the volume is higher than the average volume expected for the weight

=> and of course vice versa

Agree it is unclear what the unit is (assume kg, but could be pound for a UK company), whether cost is in Baht or $ or whatever currency and whether you pay 224 for the first 44 units and then 168 for the next 54 units or 168 for all units up to 99 if higher than 45 => you probably need to call to find out.

I had unaccompanied lugged into Bangkok (DM) some years back. On collecting however, was a total scam - got ripped off royally, and stuff had also been stolen from the luggage. Not a good experience of Thai Airports, so would never do it again to bring extra stuff here.

Many thanks :) One more question - what is the MIN about ? Is that a minimum charge per shipment?

fwiw - this is a company in Bangkok Airport that will ship unaccompanied bags anywhere, so I'm guessing that units are Kgs and Baht

Customs at the airport and sea port are as corrupt as you care to imagine. The shipping agents here are in league with them too. I've shipped three times and will never do it again.

Yes, that would be my guess also, but I am not a IATA expert. Best to call and also ask about the other options you can choose (GCR vs. SRC, Rating) and ask how much faster "Express-Yes" will be
