webfact
Kamnan Poh transferred to Chonburi prison BANGKOK, 4 February 2013 (NNT) – The Corrections Department has approved the request to transfer Kamnan Poh or Somchai Kunplome from Bangkok to serve his sentences in a prison in Chonburi, his home province. Corrections Department Director-General Suchart Wong-ananchai has reportedly approved the request by Culture Minister Sontaya Kunplome, Mr Somchai’s son, and his relatives to have Kamnan Poh transferred from Rachatan Hospital to Chonburi Central Prison. Mr. Suchart believed that security at the Chonburi prison is tight enough to hold inmates with over 30 years imprison terms. newsjs As for concerns that the prison does not have a health center to care for sick inmates and that they have to seek medical care outside and might escape, the corrections department chief voiced that he did not believe Kamnan Poh could escape as he is an old man with bad health. The Chonburi tycoon was transferred from Bangkok on Monday morning, escorted by commandos and police to prevent any unforeseen incident.. The Supreme Court, in March 2012, sentenced him in absentia to 25 years in prison for hiring a gunman to murder his political rival Prayoon Sitthichoke, or Kamnan Yoon, at a wedding in March 2003. -- NNT 2013-02-

And let us hope that this is indeed a truthful statement, Some people believe that the moon is made of green cheese others seem to believe that Kamnan Poh could not nor will try to escape as he is an old man with bad health This non escape clause being due to his word of honour and the words of honour uttered by his son and other family members. Time alone will tell if influence is going to triumph over justice. As an aside one does hope that those Red Shirt pawns who are currently serving prison sentences are of course in a prison facility near to their families aren't they courtesy of the influence being exercised on their behalf by the Party List Red Shirt P.T.P. billd766
Nothing like good old non political interference from his family is there. Send him to a prison in the southern provinces and let him have the same medical care that Uncle SMS got. I ahve absolutely ZERO sympathy for him and 100% for his victim who sadly has no voice in the matter.
webfact
KAMNAN POH Somchai transferred to Chon Buri jail; moved to local hospital on arrival The Nation Photo : Priwadi Pichaiprasit BANGKOK: -- Somchai Khunpluem, alias Kamnan Poh, was transferred from a Bangkok prison to a central prison in Chon Buri, his home province, on Monday after being arrested last week following seven years on the run. An ambulance of the Medical Correctional Institute in Bangkok believed to be carrying Somchai arrived at the Chon Buri Prison at about 11.30am. No one could see who was inside the vehicle, the windows of which were heavily tinted. The vehicle was led from Bangkok to Chon Buri by a police car. However, Amnart Pratyapan, Chon Buri Prison's warder, said that just 10 minutes after arriving at the prison, Somchai appeared fatigued and his blood pressure climbed to 150, which is considered high. He was also suffering from breathing difficulties so the prison decided to transfer Somchai to Ekkachon Hospital across the street. A prison official confirmed Chon Buri prison has no hospital on the premises although there are doctors and medical personnel to take care of ailing prisoners. If an inmate is seriously ill, he would be transferred to Ekkachon Hospital. The same official said it was believed Somchai would be housed in Zone 6 and relatives and families could visit him from noon to 3pm Monday to Friday. Somchai, 74, who suffers from high blood pressure, had to be placed on a respirator on Friday after being transferred from his cell to the Medical Corrections Department inside a Bangkok prison. He however was conscious and able to talk. The transfer to Chon Buri prison took place even though Kobkiat Kasiwiwat, the deputy director general of the Corrections Department, had said that Somchai's condition and his status as a local influential figure would be taken into consideration before any decision could be made on whether he would be transferred to the prison in Chon Buri, as there was no doctor to take care of him at that facility. -- The Nation 2013-02-

pedro01
Even for Thailand, this is amazing. 10 minutes in prison, then off to hospital where he surely can't escape. You'd think there would be a tipping point but it still seems such a far way off. My own plans now are to leave Thailand when my son hits 15 - he's 10 years old now. I don't want him developing a social life in a place where people get drunk & shoot their friends or take coke & kill cops with impunity. Even have the Thai wifes blessing for that too. Shame really, 'cause I do really like it here. I shall be sure to not let the door hit me on the way out.

Katipo
He'll be back home in a few weeks And if he isn't, he will be in a cell which would shame most 5* hotels. That's the real reason they are putting him in Chonburi where all his chums are.

Further, two days ago he was so ill, the doctors said he's suffering from multiple serious complex ailments, then the next day it's all approved to transfer him to a prison with no medical facilities, reeks to high heaven. BrianCR
Do you believe that the Hi-So still believe that Thailand has justice for all? The whole scene is totally disgusting, an affront to normal Thai people and a total disgrace that, just confirms the opinion, of many western people and their governments that the powers that be in this Country should either be locked up themselves or stuck up a banana tree.with the rest of the monkeys. After this total fiasco I am totally surprised if any judge could even consider sending any normal Thai person to prison again!! I really believe that the so called Hi-So of are nothing more than a rotten pimple on the ass**le of society!

Buchholz
Posted in the original thread before this new one was made with additional information regarding the origin of the prisoner transfer request. Also, within whose lap the decision to immediately send him on to a hospital instead of an icky prison. . This afternoon, a transfer of Kamnan Poh to Chonburi Prison has been ok'd by the Corrections Department. The transfer request was made by his oldest son, Culture Minister Sonthaya Khunploem. Furthermore, it is now up to the warden of the Chonburi Prison to allow Kamnan Poh to receive medical treatment outside of the prison if he deems it necessary. The sea-view accommodations are especially spectacular for viewing the sunsets on this ocean-front property. . . Even more intreging is why, after 7 years on the run, and in all of that time I have no doubt the police knew where he was, was he suddenly captured? There can be no doubt that he had strong and deep influence on the police. In years gone by it was said that the police shyed away from Chonburi province, never raided gambling dens or sex joints etc., in Pattaya and other parts of chonburi province because the man had more power than the actual police, and the police were frightened to tread on his toes. What happened, what was the catalyst to suddenly nab him?
Fortunate1
It appears to be the strategy of this well connected family to play the "ill health" card and have him released early whereafter he will make a miraculous recovery. He should be made to serve his time and die in prison and be remembered only as a common criminal who arranged for the murder of another man. The scum. He will be reborn as a dung beetle (my sincere apologies to any dung beetles reading this post). The police should look into who issued him with a false ID card. Look for the official with a large house.
