Internet Aircards - Who's Fastest Now?

Recommended Posts

Please only comment if you are using an USB Aircard.

Last year i used a DTAC aircard to access the internet, speeds were acceptible with EDGE and really good with 3G.

BUT

This year DTAC sucks big time, they throttled back my 3G usage to quickly and EDGE/GSM speeds are worse than a dial up modem.

So Who's fastest at the moment and offers the most 3G time/value before throttling you back to GSM/EDGE?

Please only comment if you are using an Aircard...

Very happy with CAT so far. Switched to CAT from True-H (essentially the same network), after True-H reduced their 'fair use' speed to 128kbps.

They (4GB & 384kbps FUP @ b590) are also currently best bang for buck.

I live in the middle of nowhere and use TrueMove H (7GB "fair usage" and then 256 kbs for 999 Baht. You also get free Wifi).

The speed is limited by the Aircard you get, mine came free and it has a max speed of 7.2 Mbs. With other Aircards TrueMove offer speeds of up to 42 Mbs.

Number: TrueMove-H

Content:

Did you use the same aircard after switching or did you have to buy a new one?

Do they make aircards with speeds up to 42mbps nowadays? Mine maxes out at 7.2 mbps.

Even with 7.2 mbps, DTAC doesnt even allow bandwidth anywhere near that to get through after throttling you back.

I like that. Seems sensible to offer fast speeds up to a particular number of Gigabytes (enough for any regular browsing use), but then limit the speed for people who would be downloading entire Blue Ray discs 24/7.

Cat and True-H are the same network, so same. If your aircard works with DTAC it should also work with CAT & True-H, same frequency.

On a new DTAC 7.2 aircard and monthly sim...

This is the message that you get after about 20 minutes of use.....slow but OK for now...

Your allowance of 3G maximum speed 1GB is used up, speed will be limited to 64Kbps.

Apply for 3G booster to extend allowance at 1GB/150Baht/30D,dial*104*50#

Don't know if this helps but I use a 3gb 7.2 from AIS. It was and still is better than the free 3BBB I have, That being said up until about a month and a half ago when it started disconnecting it self, I can leave the screen open and restart it and continue off where I was when it shut down.

It is getting better yesterday and today so far.

I swear rhwy get somwe thing good and proceed to over sell it.

If you got that after 20 minutes the only thing you could have been doing was downloading HD video given that you got 1 GB of credit...

That's an interesting conclusion although somewhat presumptuous.

I think you missed the point, which is that 20 minutes is all you get at "7.2Mbps" with a 1Gb cap. At the new "42Mbps" speeds it would only be 3 minutes.

This is, of course, completely irrelevant for many people, who don't use up their 1GB in a month. But what it IS important, is to educate people as to what it is they're really buying - which is 20 minutes worth of 3G access.
