Links Not Working In Daily Email Updates Of Tv Topics (General Only?)

Recommended Posts

I'd like to point out a glitch in the daily updates of TV topics (general topics at least...)

The links don't work.

e.g.:

This is your daily new topics digest for forum General topics!

Forum:General topics)

Topic: Confused - What Year Is It?! ( robsamui -- Yesterday, 20:34 )

http://www.thaivisa....hat-year-is-it/

..............................

I need to manually remove the index.php? part in order to access each link I click on...

anyone else with this issue?

Yes several links not working in today's digest, and now I get an anti-phishing warning from my email software each time I click on a link, because "the actual host is different from the host in the link text". Why don't you make the links and the actual URL the same???

If you know how to write "macros", try something like this one, which is written for "Autohotkey":

KeyWait, LButton, D ; Wait for the left mouse button to be pressed down.
Sleep , 3000 ; Wait 3 seconds for double click to work

Send , {delete} ; Delete highlighted "index"
Send , {delete} ; Delete "."
Send , {delete} ; Delete "p"
Send , {delete} ; Delete "h"
Send , {delete} ; Delete "p"
Send , {delete} ; Delete "?"
Send , {End} ; Go to end of URL
Send , U ; Send "Unread"
Send , n
Send , r
Send , e
Send , a
Send , d
Send , {Enter} ; Do it

Click on the link in the email.

Wait for the browser to go to the wrong URL.

Click on the AutoHotkey shortcut.

Double click on "index" in the URL pane to highlight it.

Now you go to the correct place. smile.png

The link that is displayed and the actual link are still different so I still get the anti-phishing alert each time I click on a link. Never mind. What is more annoying is that the format keeps changing, but you're probably doing some testing.

Yes, we are doing some extensive A/B testing durimng this month to see which style makes the most sense. Thanks for your patience!

I have been informed that this issue has been resolved. Please confirm if possible.,

Cheers

No, it still does not work as it used to.

What your "support" people have done, is to remove the unwanted "index.php" from the URL, but they have still not got the URL to take you to the first unread post.

They need to add "?view=getnewpost" to these URLs.

Do they need help?

My rates are fairly low.

Edit:

And after posting a comment (as I just did), you are sent to the top of the page instead of to the post you just made.

Edit 2:

And to rub salt into the wound, the new emails from Webfact for the News Forum DO have the extra "?view=getnewpost" at the end even though they don't need it because they are NEW threads.

Here is one of the links:

George, you really need to reconsider your support contract. I worked for 35 years in software. I did support. This is beyond words.

If it may help, I like the latest format (March 8) with the titles that can be clicked on without showing the links. It's easier to read and it doesn't trigger the anti-phishing alert. Not sure why it took you so long to figure out that there is no need to show the actual URL (or worse, some false URL), but anyway I hope this new format will stay.

All messages I have been receiving from TV by email these last 4-5 days are truncated. I get 2 or 3 links, then the ad, then a truncated html code is showing. I can make screenshots, don't know if I post them on here or send them to TV support by email. Is it just me??

What email client or software do you use?

I use Eudora 6.2. I know it's a bit old but it's still working smoothly, I never noticed such kind of problem before.

Sorry, but QUALCOMM discontinued sales for Eudora on May 1st, 2007. As of October 31st, 2007 they no longer offer support for Eudora.

I use Outlook Express. When a thaivisa email arrives as soon as I highlight it a box pops up which is blank only showing the Internet Explorer emblem on the top blue bar.

My default browser is Firefox 20.0.1

If I then try and click one of the links in the email nothing happens. It used to open a browser window and show the link.

If I right click and copy the link and paste in to a browser it is garbage like this:

http://www.639188-13-thais-charged-for-cheating-marina-bay-sands-casino-in-12m-baccarat-scam.htm

Used to work fine until a while ago. I have checked my deleted TV emails and OK until the 19th March. On the 20th these blank pop up boxes started. I am sure I could read the stories in April so maybe another change took place ?

Is this going to be fixed ?

I also use OE.

Do you have the Preview pane visible? That is usually at bottom right of the OE window.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago where I saw only the header of the message in the Preview pane after I clicked on the message - to highlight it - in the pane above, the pane that lists all emails in the Inbox.

I found that hovering the mouse over the Preview pane caused the full message to be displayed.

Don't know why it happened and hasn't happened for a while.

Outlook Express, is that a supported Microsoft product or is it retired?

May I suggest that you try Gmail?

Yes, OE hasn't been supported - by MS - for years.

But it still works! smile.png

The problem with the links not opening was down to my PC. I had done a repair install on XP and had forgotten to reinstall all the dozens of updates. That is now fixed however I still have an Internet explorer script error every time I click on the TV email but that is not really a problem. Perhaps due to me using Firefox as my default browser.

I like OE because the window is uncluttered and colours very clear, I am not a fan of edge bars or pastel shades. The other advantage is that when you put an email in the outbox that there is a preview pane. I have MS Outlook on my PC but it is just too horrible to use.
