Claims police station, flat projects approved before Abhisit's time

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party member Suthep Thaugsuban yesterday lodged a defamation lawsuit against the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief in response to accusations that were levelled against him.

newsjs

The latest accusation from DSI chief Tarit Pengdith suggests that Suthep, while serving as deputy prime minister, was involved in bidding collusion related to the construction of new police stations and police flats.

"Tarit has held several press conferences to mislead the public. He has spoken as if I, personally, issued a corrupt order to favour a certain company," Suthep said at Parliament yesterday.

He was speaking after he lodged a complaint against Tarit with the Criminal Court.

Suthep added that he had documents to prove that he was not involved in corruption, and also insisted that he did not know the owner of PCC Development and Construction Co, which won the e-auctions for both projects.

It looks like PCC Development and Construction will not be able to complete the projects within the deadline.

Yesterday, a subcontractor told the DSI that PCC Development and Construction had offered to complete the construction for a lot less than the actual cost, which made it impossible to complete the task.

According to Suthep, the two projects had won Cabinet approval during the Samak Sundaravej-led government, and when the Abhisit Vejjajiva government came to power, the National Police Office (NPO) offered a new proposal saying the project would require Bt11 billion less if construction guidelines were adjusted. Hence, he said, the Abhisit-led Cabinet approved the proposal.

"The NPO sent me three letters related to the project, each offering a different opinion. These letters came from different people, who rose to the top of NPO at different times," Suthep said.

He added that if Tarit had honest intentions, then he would not have held press conferences alongside Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit.

Suthep said the DSI chief should not allow himself to become a tool that the government can use to attack its political opponents.

"Attempts to drag Abhisit [now the Democrat Party leader] into this case clearly reflects that this case is politically motivated," Suthep said.

The veteran politician also challenged Tarit to proceed with the case against him. "Press charges against me and I will file another complaint against him on grounds of abuse of authority," Suthep said.

Meanwhile, Rak Thailand Party MP Chuwit Kamolvisit said yesterday that the DSI should not just summon Abhisit and Suthep for questioning.

"To be fair, the DSI should also summon me and Pol General Priewphan Damapong," Chuwit said.

Priewphan, a brother of Thaksin Shinawatra's ex-wife, was a former National Police chief. Chuwit was the person who exposed irregularities in the projects during a recent censure debate.

Chuwit also released the projects' terms of reference, which was prepared by a committee chaired by Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen, who is the ruling-Pheu Thai Party's candidate for the Bangkok governor election.

Suthep throwing up the gang sign of the Surat Thani "Rollin' Soi 7 Crips" to intimidate his rivals. Within the gang he is know as "Big Dogg SPK" ( Sor Por Kor)

Edited by mca

Looks like Tarit could be in trouble again makeing premature announcments.

Is there a cure for foot in mouth disease?

Chuwit also released the projects' terms of reference, which was prepared by a committee chaired by Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen, who is the ruling-Pheu Thai Party's candidate for the Bangkok governor election.

So it now seems the PT candidate for BKK was also involved.

You want to bet how suddenly Tarit gets real quiet on this case?

again we see thaksins lackies screwing up big time and by doing so have also dragged the ptp bangkok hopeful into the collusion, maybe it will backfire now and the poor old police colonel will be shunted. When will the ptp realize that using ambiguous statements from their paid lackies is not going to work, if this is all they can do then they are in for a very rough time and will get sick of the tatse of shoe leather in their mouths.

"is there a cure"

Perhaps a sudden sideways-promotion to an inactive post ? rolleyes.gif

Something has clearly stirred-up Khun Tarit & his DSI, with the flurry of recent accusations at non-PTP politicians, perhaps he's been receiving Skype-messages from the Middle-East, or might he feel the need to demonstrate his loyalty to the current regime ? wink.png

Suthep not corrupt?

He almost single handedly brought down Chuan's government in the late 90's.

Deserves everything he's getting.

Yay! At last! There's something finally we can agree on . . . thumbsup.gif

Ah but WAS he corrupt of the charges brought by Tarit and the DSI?

Rak Thailand Party MP Chuwit Kamolvisit today questioned why the Pheu Thai Party, who knew that PCC had not complied with the conditions of its contract, had allowed the Royal Thai Police Office, under Thaksin's brother-in-law National Police Chief Priewpan Damapong, to repeatedly extend the contract time frame, thus saving the PCC company to the tune of 5.8 Million Baht PER DAY in contractual fines for their unjustified delays.

Seems the idea is to use him for a scapegoat for PTP's crimes. But what the heck, charge him with everything because he MUST be guilty for some of it.

I wonder if Terit is getting tired of looking a fool for jumping on every case a PTP Minister orders him to investigate? Will he ever learn?

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court has accepted the libel case against DSI Boss Tarit and has set his trial date for May 20th.

Not as long as the payoff keeps coming in from Dubai.

I will laugh my ass off if this stooge gets found guilty in any or all of the criminal cases that are building on him.

You and me both.

In one respect isn't this poetic justice? You have heavy police involvement in a project to build police stations & accomodation & it completely fails due to corruption.

Police getting a bit of their own back?

Police getting a bit of their own back?

Not really, it appears they were in on it from the get go. Go figure!

Remember that police stealing from contracts to supply the infrastructure they need goes back as far as Thaksin rorting the police computer contract, possibly even further. Never let a chance go by.............

At this rate Tarit will need a bigger legal team than his boss, Thaksin.

I don't know where they are going to get the bodies from. Most of the suitable (I'll let you work out what qualities will be required) lawyers are already heavily engaged on working on Kamnang Pho's pardon.
