It's a disgrace. Just think of how many like this that there are being mistreated and abused by Thais.

They abuse their own, do Thais. Don't be too surprised! The Social Services does not exist in any meaningful way in this country; poor girls (those that don't choose their own paths, that is)... and those girls from foreign lands also... I meant to add.

How about the last paragraph of this article?

"The police have made it a priority to track down and arrest sexual predators of children in order to assure the international organizations related to children and women that Thailand is taking the problem seriously to protect vulnerable youngsters from being exploited by predatory tourists."

Foreign sexual predators highlighted....... but no mention of Thai nationals, and protecting vulnerable youngsters from other lands being exploited by predatory Thais.

The severe burns on this poor girl were not from 'hot' water, as stated in the OP, but from BOILING water, as can evidently be seen.

The foreigners are held for abuse, but the Thais get released, for abuse. I know what is more mentally scarring; being physical burns that burn forever, and the associated pain and abuse for many years, more than sexual abuse occuring infrequently. I condone neither, but the way the law has dealt in either of these cases is sexist, deplorable and down right pathetic...

Yes, Thai law is PATHETIC! That's the word, but also an insult to the word 'pathetic'... sad.png

The law in this country, even though I don't need to say it but I will, is fecked-up in a big way!!!

I hope this event is placed on National news in Thailand, and permits Thais to really reflect about their own truth of Buddhism, which itself seems to be lessening and lessening in practice, as more and more Thais search for wealth in ways that Buddhism, and the King for that matter, have repeatedly iterated, "Be happy with your lot."

A seven to twelve year old slave, stolen from her own life. I hope these feckers get shot, death sentenced. I really do! bah.gif

Reminds me of this case

http://news.monsters...slaving_servant

but the aspect of torture in this Karen case is worse and

the girl was younger.

Just makes you want to cry. I hope the bastards that did this suffer for the rest of their life. They are evil and will always be so.

And did that lady ever see a day in jail??

"Wipaporn, who was released on bail and will appeal the verdict, was sentenced to seven years in jail for hiring a 13-year-old girl in 2003 and forcing her to work under slave-like conditions for a year. "

I doubt it. Just another case of a Thai being convicted and sentenced for a henious, torturous crime, then immediately released... of course 'on bail' while they 'appeal'..... I'd guess that her appeal is still being drawn out for a few donations when the time comes.

You would think Chalerm would be all over this for the photo op. This is incredible they were actually released and as we know Thai's treat all non Thai ethnics as low class but this is trafficking, assault and simply disgusting. I would bury these two up to their necks and pour boiling water on them.

The part about the police taking her back to the home and leaving here there is sick. I assume her parents had reported her missing?? Did anyone even bother to investigate it...probably not considering they were ethnic Karen. Breaks my heart to see her like that. :(

I also find it pretty sad that they have so little concern for the girls current emotional state that they find it necessary to have more than five men (news? police?) gawking and taking photos. Clearly a little privacy and one police photographer could do it.

Very few Thais regard the burmese as humans. This is probably why a whole crowd of people are staring and taking pictures of a naked minor, and why the Thai couple was released immediately. Afterall they will probably just be charged with animal cruelty, which only carries a small fine.

Anyway, we should not judge the officers and the photographers - or the Thai couple for that matter. This is all an important part of Thai culture and Thainess of which Thais are very proud!

I wonder if the girl will be put back in the cage when dragged back to the house to re-enact the crime?

Why is the press taking photos of a half naked 12 year old victim?

Agree. One thing is a deranged Thai couple abusing her, but apparently it is perfectly normal for the Thai police and reporters to watch and take pictures of naked 12 year old girls and then publish them???

The convicted Wipaporn, a furniture factory owner, released on bail in 2007 and there the trail goes cold. I have googled in Thai both the names of the victim and the perpetrator of the crime and there is nothing post-2007. Guess there was a pay-off to the family and that was that or perhaps the appeal is still slowly making its way through the system.

I agree a 12 yr old girl entering or in pubity forced to stand naked in front of a group of men. If they need to do this surely there were some women available to do the job. Totally wrong and just proves also what the BIB think of a young Karen girl or they do it for thier personal sexual pleasures

I can't say I agree with your last statement.

If photos hadn't have been taken then there would not be the sincerity of reaction shown here, because the real damage has been illustrated.

There is no sexual pleasure in a burned, disfigured body, and it's highly unlikely the poor girl has even started to develop, considering the stress her body has been put through.

OK... females could have taken the pics, but in this case I see little difference in obtaining evidence to be used for the prosecution - if it gets that far sad.png

-mel.

Do you know alot of 12 year old girls who like standing naked in front of a group of men?

What does it matter if her body has developed? She is 12 years old, so she is well aware that she is standing naked in front of a group of men, no matter what her body looks like. You think perhaps just 1 female officer could have taken the photos needed and that perhaps they could have kept the photos in the evidence locker instead of in the press? And last but not least. What do you consider more important. The girls wellbeing, or the shock effect in the press? If the latter is important, perhaps they could have just taken a picture of her burned arm?

OH-MY-F#@%&!@- GOD!

There is so much wrong with this story...

Taking pictures of a naked, abused 12 year old by a bunch of men?

She escaped before and the POLICE THAT SHOULD PROTECT HER, brought her back to her torturers?

The were left to go back home on bail, when their victim looks like THAT?

...and all that, maybe because she is a member of a minority in this country, that has little rights anyways?

Honestly...if I were Thai and I would read this story, I would be SO ashamed right now!

This is just bad and sad and disgusting and horrible....

I was reading about this awful story in Thairath yesterday.

Apparently she's ethnic Karen from Burma and the Thai couple were keeping her in a metal dog cage outside and regularly beating her and pouring boiling water over her for no apparent reason.

She had escaped once before, but the police captured her and for reasons best known to themselves, brought her straight back to the Thai couple.

Luckily now she's now being looked after in a children's home and the story's become too public for things to stay as they were.

The Thai police have filed several charges against the couple, however they're denying everything, saying her injuries were self-inflicted after she tripped over a pot of boiling water. They have bailed themselves out for 700,000 Baht.

...Mr Thonwat Sathit, the children's home manager in Kamphaeng Phet province where the girl is now staying said the girl was now in his care and that it was the worst case of abuse he'd he'd seen. The girl was very afraid due the fact that the abusers had 'influence' in the area so he'd written to the police to ask for them to patrol the premises at night. The girl's emotional state had improved significantly since her arrival . At first she was afraid of all the staff there, but this was beginning to abate. As for her various injuries, it would be necessary for the case to go to court before sending her to hospital...

Later on though it does say the girl has been sent for an examination to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital.

Seems an ass-backward way of doing things, she should be sent to the hospital first. I guess reading between the lines she will need extensive and lengthy surgery and maybe there are funding problems for this since she's not a Thai national.

The Thais posting up comments on the story on various news websites seem shocked and outraged too.

Hope she gets the care she needs.

It's times like this I wish my chosen vocation was as a hitman. This would be one of my freebies.

So, it's never too late to change if you really think like that my friend.

And they were released on bail. Never to be seen again.

Miracle Thailand.

Once I tried to escape about three years ago. But there was someone who sent me to the police, and the police took me back to the house owners again.

Poor girl. Someone needs to put a bullet into the heads of both of these monsters. I'd do it myself if the police would guarantee nothing would come of it.

Share your sentiments if not your faith in BiB guarantees. Wife tells me that this is trending big on Facebook outside of Thailand so maybe it won't be quietly buried and this girl will get the help she so clearly needs, Really hope so, a child should know only love and kindness, idealistic I know but....
