KAMPHANG PHET: -- Sympathy and support is pouring in for a Karen girl who was allegedly kidnapped, enslaved, tortured and scarred over half of her body by a couple in Kamphaeng Phet.

Her alleged attackers, Natee Taeng-orn and Rattanakorn Piyaworatham, have denied any wrongdoing and been released on bail. According to neighbours, the couple has not been seen in their neighbourhood since February 7.

The young victim told police that for about five years she had to do housework without any pay and help Rattanakorn with bathing dogs at her shop. When the girl made a mistake, she was locked up in a cage and hot water was poured on her.

Since being released, the 12-year-old victim has appeared in front of many news cameras. Her scars have attracted overwhelming public sympathy. But officials have cautioned against showing her scantily clothed body to the public because that could constitute a violation of her human rights.

"Having her wear only underpants while photos and videos were being taken could cause pressure and traumatise her [further]," Sanphasit Koompraphant, a children's rights activist, said.

"Doing so is considered against norms for child victims and witnesses under the protection of the United Nations."

But by yesterday, officials at the Kamphaeng Phet Home for Children and Families said the girl had started to smile again.

"At first, she was depressed, shaken and quiet," an official said.

Deputy Kamphaeng Phet Governor Watcharin Thongsakul yesterday brought doctors to the girl. An initial examination showed more than half of her skin surface sustained damages. In some parts, the damage had reached bone level.

"We will provide treatment for her. If necessary, we will also refer her to a more specialised medical facility," Kamphaeng Phet Hospital's director Kamchai Rangsimanpaiboon said.

The Kamphaeng Phet Home for Children and Families said the Rotary Club of Bangkok's Klong Toei had offered to pay for the treatment too.

Kamchai also disclosed that several foundations had stepped forward to help the young girl.

"We will ensure that she gets protection and rehabilitation," he said.

He added that his provincial authority would also work on the prosecution of her attackers.

Kamchai said the suspects would face an additional charge of violating the 1998 Labour Protection Act. They have already been charged with assault and illegal detention.

Labour Protection and Welfare Department director-general Pakorn Amorncheewin said if convicted of using child labour, the couple would face a maximum fine of Bt200,000 and up to one year in jail. He said the couple could also be required to pay the girl for the work she had done for them over the past five years.

To actually punish these monsters would be to admit there are some serious flaws in

Thai " culture". IE meaning to treat non Thais as less than animals. Of course nothing

will happen to these people unless the story really goes global, and then to preserve

whatever is left of the government's face, they will have to do something.

Even if she had tripped over a pan of boiling water, are they so lacking in humanity that they could not take her to hospital?

Another profanity post has been removed. This is definitely a horrible situation for the young girl, if you cannot post without using profanities while expressing your opinion, then don't bother posting.

Meanwhile, try getting bail for a 19 yr old farang caught smoking weed on the beach....no chance!

I seriously wonder what goes on in the head of law enforcement officials or Judges who approve bail for crimes like this. Do they seriously consider that the accused are not a flight risk? The police have already stated that if the girls story is true the accused will get life imprisonment, and guess what...a reporter found the accused's house locked up and neighbours saying 'they have gone to live somewhere else'.....well what a surprise!!

Bloody monsters!Pox on them.CNX judiciary is one big pile of crap.

There must be a reason that this report was from

http://www.pattayada...el-thai-couple/

and not found in Bangkok Post or The Nation. I am sure she has been brought to the attention of Paveena Foundation in Pathum Thani. Horrifying injuries. One can only hope that the two creatures that inflicted such pain are themselves made to suffer.

Was on Thai TV today. A lot boiling water over the two slavholder.

Disgusting. They are an abomination to society. The poor girl has scars all over her body, visible and invisible ones. In and out. She is not going to see her breasts ever. I wish the couple to be imprisoned, charged, condemned and dammed.

This is totally shocking, I can't begin to imagine the pain and distress this girl must of endured. I applaud the authorities and others who are helping to rehabilitate her, I hope a fund is established to help this.

After posting myself, and reading all of the posts, I am wondering whether there would have been more national outrage if the sick bastards who did this act had done the excat same thing to a soi dog.

Just a thought. I am sure most members here are totally repulsed by this terrible incident.

My wish is that this couple do not sleep nights and always watch their backs. Karma should kick in soon I hope.

i had not seen this report up until i started a topic in the general forum my thoughts are there[whats happening] but just a bit of what i think hanging is too good for them.

do anyone know if a fund has been set up for this poor girl.

it boils down to some thai's attitude that other than thai are a sub species

Sure they are scum, is guilty, but slow down on the Thai bit, these atrocities happen, unfortunately, in every country in the world, but that doesn't of course lessen the crime.

Unfortunately you are correct scorecard. Every now and then something like this happens in the US and also in European countries. What is unbelievable to me is a judge gave these people bail.

I found it interesting that in the Pattaya Daily News article about this poor girl, they listed the full names and address of these monsters. Perhaps there is somebody in Thailand that could speed up the karma process...... The monster man is an engineer, and the monster wife has a dog grooming business so I assume they would not fall under the standard hiso umbrella of protection of immunity from any criminal prosecution.

Take your finger and put it in boiling water for a few seconds. Then take that pain level and imagine it over your entire upper body. This story is one of the most disturbing I have seen here in a long long time.

I wonder how this would be viewed were it Yingluk's son; kidnapped and after all these years finally showing up on the police station doorsteps?

When it comes to abuse, what is the difference between justice for this child or that child? To me; nothing; but I guess I am not Thai, and therefore I do not have a deeper understanding of the issues that protect the Thai adult man and woman and make non-Thai children accessible to Thai monsters such as these.

I should apologize to the Thai people, but I cannot bring myself to do so simply on my own principles I was raised by.

The child needs and deserves a complete skin transplant.

I can think of two donors, but they were released on bail.

and whereabouts unknown, last sighting was sitting on the beach on the Gold Coast Australia.

Not the point right now, but this is a reminder to all parents to watch the whereabouts of your kids.

In Thailand (and other countries of course), there is at least one child or more, including all age groups, boys and girls, who go missing every day and never found.

It happened many years back in my extended Thai family, a little girl just 3 years old. If alive today she would now be about 19 yrs old.

The police found no evidence whatever. Her parents and other relatives spent much time trying to follow any leads, they found nothing.

The parents are still zombies and still scrutinize every Thai child of the appropriate age group they see.

Spending time with the parents is difficult, other family members plan in advance to try to have any family events whilst other children are away with other relatives etc., to try not to upset the now childless couple.

As said, the parents are zombies and will be till the day they pass on.

Beware, watch your kids like a hawk.

Right on the money. Back in the US parents in a shopping center don't let the little kiddies out of their sight. The other day I was in BigC and this lady had a little girl appearing to be about three. The little girl took off while the mother was looking at a dress. I found myself following the little girl just to make sure she was safe. I see the same thing constantly here and it really bothers me.

The perps aren't always adult either. Remember Jamie Bulger in the UK?

A few years ago, someone tried to snatch a colleagues child from a petrol station. Kid was about 7, 100% foreign, and someone tried to bundle him into a tour van. Terrifying.

That's just silly - in any country in the world the kidnapping of the head of state's child would not be treated the same as some poor immigrant child.

I can hardly bear to even think about this case and can't express my revulsion and deep, deep loathing for the vile filth that committed this act in any coherent or useful way. I find it beyond intolerable that they were given bail.

But while criticism of Thais as a whole can maybe be arguably justified as warranted in some respects, due to certain aspects of the situation, one has to be reasonable in doing so and not hold them up to some imagined and totally unrealistic standard supposedly held elsewhere. One also should take into account the Thai reaction to this case, as shown in linked reports.
