hello there, i m planning to go to thailand soon for 6 month and i will need a good internet connection speed and quality because i m a self made trader and so i need it for working and making money.

i read a lot of thing on the forum and the first conclusion i have is the speed is good if you connect to thaï website but is slower (or really bad) if you try to connect out of thailand to europe or america's website.

for my software trading, i need a good connection, so can you TRY A PING TEST FOR ME ?

i would be very glad if you do . the ping adress is : ping 202.1.7.3 (what average speed? any loss?)

can you do a traceroad to : tracert 202.1.7.3 (how many line do you have? ...)

This doesn't help you, internet in Thailand is all ABOUT location - location - location! What works at one place doesn't work at another place. So a ping from Pathum Thani does mean you will have the same speed two blocks down the road....

I don't know where you come from but you can't 'demand' here bandwidth (even if you pay for it) or anything else, internet speed / up-time is as it as.

Please bear in mind that my home is in a sparsely populated soi with no condo blocks. We are located in between 3BB, TOT and a number of BIG government offices. Our soi is populated by a LOT of over 70s so probably not on an over-subscribed node.

Cloggie is 100% correct. If speed to US and Europe sites is a deal breaker, you will have to accept it will take time to find the right location if you do not have options before you show up.

I could see where someone moving here permanently could spend 6 months finding the optimum combination of location and internet service. When my neighbor moved into his house across the street, the only ISP in our development at that time told him it would be 3-4 months before their equipment upgrade would allow him to connect.

Would the connection be the driving factor, would you accept renting a house where public transportation may not be optimal for a short time visitor or do you have to be in town (i.e., rent an apartment, condo) where you can walk out and get cheap transportation around town?

An option might be to find an agent and tell them to find you a certain type of location (e.g., near BTS in BKK or near the moat in Chiangmai) with fiber optics either already installed or on the pole outside and that you can have a dedicated line run to your house/unit. Do not show up until you have several places to choose from or you will spend your 6 months looking.

Our OP also needs to consider reliability as well as ultimate speed and response times.

Internet in Thailand is not reliable, period!

He's probably going to need a backup connection via 3G for when his landline connection is down.
