Fugitive cop in Saudi case will not be prosecuted: DSI

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has invoked the witness-protection law to bring fugitive Pol Lt-Colonel Suwichai Kaewpaleuk to a witness stand overseas, but has no plans to bring him back to face justice in Thailand.

newsjs

DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said yesterday that relevant authorities had to step forward and take action themselves if they wanted to arrest Suwichai. "We won't object to that," he said.

Suwichai is wanted on a murder charge but is now considered a crucial witness in the 1989 disappearance of Saudi businessman Mohammad al-Ruwaili.

He is also the first-ever witness to get such special protection from Thailand and will testify in a United Arab Emirates court.

"For the DSI case, he is a witness, not a suspect," Tarit explained, while insisting that the DSI had moved carefully in invoking the witness-protection law. "I cannot disclose more."

whom was he supposed to have killed?

Pol Lt Col Suwitchai went into hiding, reportedly in Cambodia, after he was found guilty and given a life sentence in connection with the murder of Lao dissidents.

As usual, the money angle becomes the over-riding deciding factor.

A convicted multiple murderer fugitive is given a free pass on killing Laotians in exchange for testimony in an effort to restore national relations with Saudi Arabia.

DSI Boss Tarit gets sleazier with each passing day it seems.

The sad thing is, that this is just one murdering cop. How many others are out there running free or even still active in the RTP.

Erm……wouldn't that be you then? Or is this case not political enough?

One may be excused to wonder (I hope) in which United Arab Emirate our fugitive Police Lieutenant-Colonel has found shelter. Maybe another fugitive Police Lieutenant-Colonel offered him a place to lay down his weary head?ermm.gif

Ahhh, yes. I was wondering just what is in it for Dubai/UAE to have a convicted multiple murderer fugitive running around free in their midst.... but then remembered their dubious other resident visitor.

I don't know about that. Even fleas have standards, bubonic plague is one thing but this guy, well……

'Don't know where to begin on this one. When it comes to Thai police, one can't seem to dig deep enough to find dirt without bones. Simply incredible and a bit chilling as to what these scum are capable of doing, and in fact do.

Whew, this comes as a relief. I was worried for the crusading law enforcement officer's personal safety. blink.png

Read the OP properly. He is wanted as a witness in the Saudi case but is a fugitive having been found gulity of murder in a previous case. Let us all know if you do receive a Noble prize Sherlock. clap2.gifclap2.gif

From the link

"2012-11-02: Pol Lt Gen Somkid said in a telephone interview with the Bangkok Post yesterday that negotiations are under way to persuade Pol Lt Col Suwitchai to give false testimony against him in exchange for asylum overseas.

Followed by

"2013-02-05: The witness, Pol Lt Col Suwitchai Kaewphaluek, was found in the UAE after spending years on the run from a life sentence for a 2005 murder conviction.

...

As Thailand and the UAE have no bilateral extradition agreement, Pol Lt Col Suwitchai is not under arrest."

....nauseating....

....nauseating....

Quite.

It appears that the DSI, not content with accepting all sorts of cases prompted by the ruling party, is now willing to 'protect' a convicted murderer & seek his 'evidence' in another very politically-charged case. It just points to how low the DSI has gone.

Some may suggest that how far the DSI are willing to stoop is in inverse proportion of how high up the social scale some of those involved actually are.
