So its the social norm for police officers to extort funds from business operators, perhaps next week summary executions of those business operators who do not pay up will be the social norm, how far will calling criminal activities the social norm go?

Extortion...extortion....might be a euphemism for that...

Back home, police officers are well paid. With LOTS of benefits.

Here, the pay is not so good...

Perhaps Thailand has found a way to channel money to police officers, and money coming from people getting good profit from sales, not from all the poor Thai people. It is the way it is here.

Lots of money involved here. Not sure if everyone unhappy about the Thai way of life would want to bring about changes, if they were on the receiving end, and saw in it just a good way to share sales profits...

Some people being extorted,as it is said, are driving mercedes benz...

Things are just not done in the same fashion as back home... The wealth of rich people back home get more protection....

This is what you get when the 3 stooges run the show

Of course, it never happened under the nice "dems".

Sure, BIB extortion has been going on for eons, but no Democrat politician has defended it, let alone endorsed it.

What Chalerm is doing is ensuring that there are plenty of corrupt police who will be available in future to join PTP when they retire.

The name for the PTP shound be changed to PERP: Police Extortionist Retirement Party.

businessmen already have their monthly gifts, not only to the VAT office, the tax offiice, the social service office, but mainly the police

could be a good thing if the media continue to pound on this extortion, but this is not an annual but monthly bribe to be paid to the local maffia, euh, bib

What's just as scary is half-wits and idiots who can't understand basic English when they read it, and then go on to have a non-sensical rant about it. Chalerm did not say the underlined words you refer to.

Concern about social norms on fringe of law

Fringe? this sort of behaviour is smack bang at the centre of the law.

Social Norms covers a multitude of sins. A friend who is a member of a dating site was asked by a Thai lady if he was married as it was " against Thai tradition to get involved with a married man " ! Whatever next ?

clap2.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifthumbsup.gif For sure?
