dinga
G'day - attached are a couple of photos of my unknown palm (very slender and apparently clumping). Want to plant some more, but forgot where bought it. Have (unsuccessfully) tried some local nurseries who don't know what it is (clearly ain't a golden cane). Can anyone identify it - even better still, advise where I can buy in the Rayong area? Tks & BRs
kanun
They look like young betel nut trees (ton maak)
sbk
It does have a similar trunk but betels don't clump.
chinnotes
I think (but I am no specialist on palms) that this is a member of genus Pinanga. But there are 120 or more species in this genus, and from your photo I think it will not be possible to say definitely what species it is. To determine the species photos of blossoms and fruits would be necessary, plus other details. - I have a book with pictures of all (or most?) palms found in Thailand, and Pinanga is the only genus that has species that look like the clumping palms in your photo. xen
I may be wrong but it appears to be two different palm spp in the photo so what one are you refering to ? Could the clumping one be this - Ptychosperma macarthurii . Take into account that many palms have different shades of foliage according to the exposure to light so this photo shows a yellow green foliage because it is in the open whereas the clumping palm in the photo is in a much more sheltered position. Even Golden Cane Palms can be a darker green when grown in the shade.

Thanks for the suggestions, armed with those I'll compare again at the weekend against the mystery plant, and report back then.

BuddhistVirus
Yellow palm tree. Yeah, looks like yellow palm, also known as Areca palms, or butterfly palms (Areca triandra)
