Good News For Indian Curry Lovers

Featured Replies

I opened my last jar of Pataks Vindaloo curry paste yesterday, panic was setting

in, would I have enough to last until my daughter arrives from the UK in a few weeks

time ,her case stuffed with curry paste, tins corn beef,John West kippers.

Then walking around Tops Supermarket today I could not believe my eyes, top

shelf full of Pataks curry PASTES,and at a price of only Bht 119 a jar, they had

Vindaloo,Madras,Korma,Butter Chicken,Tika Masala and Tandoori, but sadly

not my favorite Rogan Josh.

At bht 119 a jar seems good value,as the stock before was selling at a mind

boggling Bht 279 a jar, so bht 119 might be a pricing mistake, so take advantage

before they realize. with the pastes you can make at least 6 curries, and if you

make your own at least you will know whats going in the curry, and once opened

it keeps in the fridge for months.

So thats saved my daughter bringing some, means she can bring more kippers,

Regards Worgeordie

Good news...now if only any Tops or Rim Ping branch had any sharwoods poppadoms in stock . I have not seen any for at least 6 weekssad.png

I know you can get them from the Indian shop in Warawot market, but I prefer Sharwood's brand

Pataks had stopped making Tandoori paste and Madras for quite a while. I'm happy to know that they are back. During the interim I discovered that 'Maggi' brand put out a Tandoori mix, that when mixed with a few TBS of yogurt, made one of the very best (actually even better than Patats!) that I'd ever tasted. But it will be nice to have both available!

Tops Santitam has had them on the shelves for ages.

Been that price for about 6 weeks now. I bought shed loads thinking it might be a pricing mistake. If it is they haven't cottoned

on.

I noticed the curry pricing at Tops about 3 weeks ago, have bought heaps since thumbsup.gif

Dear Mr Worgeordie you can very easily make curry paste at home using Jamie Oliver recipe all you need is a good blender and some locally available ingredients. Taste much better than Patek brand!! It keeps well coved in oil in the fridge.

They have been there for a while but there are some local brand too that taste nice.

And for an English style curry you could try SausageKing. Rob's curries are a fair feed.

There is a small one across the street from the doungtawan hotel. Close to the night bazaar on Loi Krow

Le Spice is pretty good too. They also have Western and Thai/Chinese dishes on the menu. This is convenient when you're eating with people (I will not name names *cough* Mrs T*cough*) who have no proper appreciation for Indian food.
