Yingluck 'won't be meeting Thaksin' during trip to Korea and Hong Kong
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday kick-started her visit to South Korea and Hong Kong and dismissed speculation about a plan to meet her fugitive brother Thaksin.

"I will not meet Thaksin in Hong Kong as has been alleged [during the two-day trip]," she said.

Yingluck, accompanied by her son Supasek Amornchat, is due to attend the inauguration of South Korea's first female president, Park Geun-hye.

On the second leg of her trip, she will unveil the Thai infrastructure development plan to attract foreign investment. She is expected to return to Bangkok tomorrow night.

Speaking before her departure, the prime minister said she was worried about the final stretch of the Bangkok governor's race for Pheu Thai candidate Pongsapat Pongcharoen.

She said she would help Pongsapat sway votes until the "last minute" ahead of the March 3 ballot.

She urged all candidates to campaign in a constructive manner. She also called on Bangkok voters to turn out in full force for the election.

Upon arrival in Seoul, the PM was scheduled to make a farewell call on outgoing President Lee Myung-bak. Following the inauguration of Park, she will extend an invitation for the first female elected to the South Korean presidency to attend a regional conference on water management in Bangkok in May.

She will also outline her willingness to work with Park on female empowerment.

In Hong Kong, the Thai delegation will hold talks with the special administrative region's leader Leung Chun-ying. There will be a signing ceremony for the agreement to boost economic and trade ties.

The prime minister will meet Hong Kong bankers and tourism operators during the two-day visit.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung will be acting prime minister until tomorrow night. The Cabinet meeting has been rescheduled, however, from Tuesday to Wednesday in order to coincide with Yingluck's return.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit dismissed allegations about a Yingluck-Thaksin meeting.

Thaksin would be in Europe this week and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva had allowed his imagination to run wild by alleging they would meet, he said.

How much business is she going to be doing if she's taking her young son? ...doesn't say her husband is going

.

Perhaps it's a legality issue of some sort.

While Supasek "Nong Pipe" Amornchat is Yingluck "Poo" Shinawatra's legal son, Anusorn Amornchat and Poo have never legally married.

Using my Thai Politician handy dandy translation device - I come up with - " Yingluck Will be meeting Thaksin during trip to Korea and Hong Kong

Amazing, that is exactly what my double-speak translator said too.

Those old fashioned "values" of yours just have a habit of popping out don't they.

Do you really think the fact that they aren't married is

i) of relevance to her meetings or

ii) anything to do with this thread?

In other words yet another off topic post from buchholz.

I don't think its a big deal either way. He was answering a post about Yingluck's 'husband'. We all know his style, but I think you're being a bit touchy here.

Meeting with Thaksin would be "consorting with criminals," a crime which is much easier to prove than criminal conspiracy, and nowhere near as lucrative.

Hallo! that is the point being made. If Thaksin is going to be in Europe and Yingluck is going to be in Asia how could they possibly meet? Abhisit off on his usual obsession.

Hey now, it's all he can do. It's not as if he is able to muster anything substantive, oh like say, a coherent political platform.

The poor guy is just waiting for the night of the long knives so he can go sit on some corporate boards. Or maybe, go back to his previous job as a "teacher". He did that for less than a year before he discovered his calling as Thailand's great leader.

I don't care what the political party the leader belongs to, he or she should be allowed time with family, especially when most of the day is taken up by affairs of state

I agree but surely you are not referring to PM Yingluck when you say most of the day is taken up by affairs of the state. Or are you?

Thaksin got his just deserts (as with most criminals), and Abhisit was just in the right place at the right time to assume the seat. But the rats that populate the parliament these days, street crooks hiding behind fat salaries, and including the puppet mouthpiece at present, hardly represent intelligent fiscal or corporate management with the interests of the country. At least Abhisit has the education and qualifications but Thailand just did not figure it out and his party 'support' was ready to jump ship to whomever was willing to pay. Thus is the political landscape of Thailand. Som num na.

It is nott unusual for a political leader to take along a young child. Be fair. PM's have families. Sometimes the only opportunity to spend some time with their kids are on such visits. Presidents of the USA, PMs of Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and many others have all done the same. I don't care what the political party the leader belongs to, he or she should be allowed time with family, especially when most of the day is taken up by affairs of state. I'd rather a PM take a kid along than have a Bunga Bunga party with underage strippers.

Correct. Imagine having a PM that goes on diplomatic trips and does personal business deals on the side. That would be really bad.

She will also outline her willingness to work with Park on female empowerment.

I've seen absolutely no evidence of Yingluck working on female empowerment in Thailand.

She has had at least two opportunities: the departed minister's attempt to justify the Krabi rape; and the sexual innuendo of one of her party against an opposition female MP.

Seems like she could start with female empowerment in her 'own' party.

Another nonsense article and a wasted trip by the PM who has little if any idea on international trade co-operation and investment. Her track record on spending though is cutting edge.

Similar to Julia Gillard the Australian PM
