Situation: In September I got a double entry visa from the Thai consulate in Berlin. It started when I arrived in November. Am now on the second part of it. I leave in about four weeks to return to Europe. I want to be back in Thailand before midsummer.

So far so good.

On returning to Europe it is my intention to get another double entryvisa from the Thai consulate in Spain where I reside. Question no.1: is it possible to get a triple entry visa from a European country?

Question no.2: I intend to come back to Thailand within, say, the

space of 6-8 weeks. How quickly can I request my next tourist visa/ what gap if any should I leave between arriving in Europe and requesting my visa-is it advisable to wait a bit?

There is no time limit before applying for another Visa.

Triple entry Tourist Visas are available at some Consulates in Europe. You will have to ask them.

Wait as long as you can before you get the next VISA (ie. days before arrival in Thailand). For example, a double entry is only valid for 3 months. So if you're getting a double entry with hopes of staying 6 months, the clock actually starts ticking from the day you get the VISA, not the day you arrive in Thailand.

In some countries, a double entry visa is valid for 6 months. However, if you do get a triple wait until just before you leave to get in order to get the maximum number of days. The visa will be valid for 6 months and the last entry must be made on or before the day it expires giving you another 60 + 30 days.

AFAIK the Thai Embassy and Consulate in Spain will issue, mostly, only Single Entry Tourist.

Is might be easier for you to get a Double Entry in another European Country.

As mention before, even for Visas from Europe, the validity date is different.

Some places allow 3 month only, while others give 6 month validity.

I have checked out the Thai consulate in the UK in Birmingham and Hull, the latter stipulates UK residency as a condition, nonetheless, when applying in Germany the fact that I was not a German resident was not an issue. UK triple entry would be the best if it were not for this prerequisite. Any further advice/information on Spain vs other options in Europe much appreciated.

I don't think it is like this in fact. I obtained the visa in September but only arrived in Thailand in late Nov. I extended it 2 months later here in CM and got 30 days more. This went smoothly. If the clock had actually been ticking from the day I obtained the visa I guess I would have had a nasty surprise at CM immigration in January when they would have told me that my initial 60 days were up in December, right?

I suggest you contact the one of the honorary consulates in Spain about getting a tourist visa rather than the embassy.

Contact info can be found here: http://www.guidetothailand.com/thailand-travel-information/honcon-europe.php

Unfortunately, the information at the website to which you linked is out of date. The Thai consulate in Barcelona closed 3 years ago. That leaves Tenerife. Am awaiting a reply to the email I sent to Madrid seeking clarification of the double/triple entry question. Thanks for all the feedback s far

You extend your stay - not your visa. The visa is only used for entry. So it does not have to be within its validity date to extend. People extend for decades after they arrive on a visa.

"Decades"?? Wow, I assume you mean via visas obtained in other SEA countries. Can one get double entry visas in neighbouring countries?

I mean by visa obtained anywhere - all it takes is one non immigrant visa entry to stay a lifetime if you continue to extend every year.

Staying on visa entry means obtaining new visas when your current permitted to stay ends (rather than extending). Multi entry visas are available for authorized reasons but not more than a two entry is common for tourism in the local area and Vientiane as the best bet for them.
