saakura
Ocean Monarch - Semi Sub... Exploration in Indonesia (currently Arafura sea - West Papua). Sounds exotic, the location. You mentioned semi sub. Are there fully submersible oil rigs/platforms also? If that is what it is called.

richard_smith237
Ocean Monarch - Semi Sub... Exploration in Indonesia (currently Arafura sea - West Papua). Sounds exotic, the location. You mentioned semi sub. Are there fully submersible oil rigs/platforms also? If that is what it is called. Nothing exotic about being in the middle of the sea for a month !!! In answer to your question: The water is 4600 ft deep... The Rig floats, but not quite like a boat - It floats on huge pods which are ballasted under the waterline... LivinginKata
Semi subs - these platform are ballasted down in working configuration to minimise wave action. In transit the rig pontoons are fully exposed. Hence the term semi submersible. Never heard of a fully submersible rig but there are fully submersible production units controlled from a nearby production platform.
