I want to have a go at making some Hot Cross Buns this year, I've sourced everything apart from Sultanas and mixed peel, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on where you live I found a bakery supplier in Nakhon Sawan that does sort of mixed peel or fruit but sultanas I have not found.

Possibly in the big western food shops like Villa or Foodland.

I have made a list of cooking things, spices etc with English and Thai plus a photo which you may find helpful.

Odd cooking tools.doc

Odd food bits.doc

If you do find the stuff that you need can you please post it.

Thanks

Most people go for the Easter Eggs, but for me, the Hot Cross Buns are the highlight.

Some wrap them in foil and into the oven.

I live by myself so it's cut them in half, into the toaster and then after cooling a little ... lashing of salted butter ... licklips.gif

Got a Red Cross Parcel yesterday containing, amongst other things, some M&S Hot Cross Buns, only to discover that my good lady likes them.

Still gonna try to make a batch tomorrow though.

I am sort of lucky in that SWMBO doesn't really like cakes unless they are filled with somtam or pla ra and my son doesn't eat many either so I just have to eat them myself.

I made a fruit cake that my Thai neighbour liked and she wants me to make her one with a large splash or 5 of brandy in it.

Also up in Khampaeng Phet yesterday I managed to find a small shop in the market area which does a lot of cake and bakery supplies.

Good luck on the hot cross buns. write the recipe up and take photos to paste so that we can share and don't worry about mistakes as they are the best way to learn.

Cheers

Did you make them yourself?

If you did please post the recipe and ingredients and hurry because I am beginning to drool and it plays hell with the keyboard.
