hansje1980
Ok I had this crappy camera before, suction cup holder broke sadly. Time for a new one. I loved the fact that I saved at least 6000 baht on fines (500 each), and 4000 on 2 small scratches made by other drivers which I asked to pay me for the scratch they made. That's a total of 10,000 baht I saved, yes it goes much faster driving downtown Bangkok 7 days a week Anyhow, time for a new one and after spending 30 hours of reading reviews by websites as well as purchasers and many dash can forums I came to the conclusion to go for a Dod LS400W. Google for more info! Lowest prices I found were $135 usd from china (free shipping). It may sound expensive but a 4000-5000 baht camera which actually performs great at night too is a must for me incl reading number plates, I want it sharp! Was looking for: Budget of 3000-5000 baht Full HD (real, not up scaled) 5stars for daylight 4stars for night (5 is impossible) Easy control LCD screen. I didn't want to have GPS because in order to keep the same quality 5 and 4 star the price would be at least 12,000 baht. I don't need GPS at all. Only want the most necessary! So 5000 I would buy it. But maybe I can find it later today (Friday) in the late afternoon at Khlong Thom Market for like 4xxx baht I'll share some videos once I have it installed! Later folks Hans Ps. Please give me google map links to an exact location of a road u want me to drive at so I can go there, save it, share it with you here. This way you can compare your own dashcam captures with mine. That's sweet, right?

steelepulse
I bought a full hd camera off pandawill.com and I'm really happy with it. http://www.pandawill.com/cubot-gs9000pro-car-dvr-1080p-full-hd-gps-motion-detection-night-vision-wide-angle-hdmi-p71407.html No customs charges, no hassles, but there's no English instructions. I paid about 3600 baht, but see it's now 3000 baht.
watcharacters
so no reputable brands like samsung making these then? Garmin (the GPS people) do them, expect to pay a premium price. Dashcams have their own discussion forum "forum dot dashcamtalk dot com" . Do you know of a similar site? This one seems to have run out of gas. anon210
About the suction cups, you just have to buy new ones on Ebay. Steelepulse, what is the image quality with your cam? Hanse's camera looks interesting though.
bino
I bought this one on Ebay. It is waterproof, so might also suit the motorcycle guys who want one. There are several mounting systems in the box- a headband, handlebar mount, suction cup, and more. The picture quality is quite good- several resolutions to choose from up to 1080p. I've tested the waterproofing in the pool, and it is indeed watertight. Great fun. I bought a class 10 SD 32 GB SD Card at the same time, and this gives lots of space. hansje1980
[OFFTOPIC] Maybe a silly idea, but wouldn't it be nice to have a website like dashcamtalk but instead orientated for the Thai market? Basically for Thais and Farangs, so 2 languages. I can't write Thai though, need to find a translator lol. Anyhow, maybe a sponsor willing to buy new cams, so I or we can review those and keep the website up to date, kinda like the dashcamtalk site but focused on Thai market. I'm sure also a lot of Thai are interested in these cams so there could even be some kind of shop attached so I or we can get cameras imported to Thailand to have the best prices, and ofcourse English support. I haven't got much to do at the moment so I feel great setting things up online being a webdeveloper, designer. Feel free to reply by pm to keep things ontopic in this thread [/OFFTOPIC]

I did it already asking the vendors at Worachak. When last time, nobody wanted to sell me a suction cup holder, I just went on ebay. You could even fix it to your roof with some DIY. BKKdreaming
Anyone order the $20-$30 dash cams off Ebay that are shipped from China / Hong Kong ? I need a few to place around my property as cheap security cams , hopefully you can set them up to trigger with motion detection Are the optics on these cheap cams good enough to use outside and see who is walking around the property ? Or any other ideas of cameras that use SD cards , and batteries or 12V thanks for your ideas

I cannot read the plates of the cars whizzing past you. I guess that's common to all dash cams. Thats true, if eyes cant see it because something moves too fast, im positive that all dashcams cant read it. would only be possible when there are full hd dashcams with a fps of at least 150 or 200 fps. EVen sometimes to fast for a gopro (which is 120fps on a non fullhd res) although this is not a dashcam Regarding RAW footage: here you go all! 14170026.zip - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-qTa43lE4oUR1dZSVFHYlBfWmM/edit?usp=sharing Shared using the free storage of Google Drive. muratremix
HEllo, Any update on dashcam ? I also wonder why everybody wants HD ? A bit useless to record cops hands taking your cash money... In order to see other car's plate number (especially ones with Thai characters, which can't be guessed like in Latin). I would never put a dashcam that records less than 1080p and 120 degrees angle. Bung
I've seen good ones that are built into a rear view mirror. I was thinking of powering one from the map lights, got 12v there on the switches, just have to solder it in but will be much tidier and easy not to have to run the cable right down to the cigarette lighter. Better to run wire to cigarette lighter you won't see if you run behind the roof lining then if you want can solder to back of the lighter that way when car is started you have power to the camera. If you do from interior light you might forget to turn off.

Sommaz
Some good dashcams offer hard-wiring kits, which is a better option than using the cigarette charger (for those of you who drive the same vehicle). They have in-line filter and fuse and can connect to the igintion, so only come on/off as long as the engine is running. A suction cup mounted cam with cigarette lighter power is ideal for those who may drive different cars, or use rentals on regualr basis.

richard_smith237
I have the BlackVue DR500 -GW (7990 baht) - I did plenty of research, IMO its the best one out there for a number of reasons, mostly quality and size (its completely inconspicuous). I'm really happy with it. Wifi function connects directly to my Phone, I can view the real time display or the saved files or change the setting on the cam directly from my phone. Files record on a loop to the SD card in 1-3 minute packets (depending on setup). G-Setting are established in set-up (up-down/sideways/forwards-backwards) and when the G-settings are exceed the 1-3 minute packet is locked so that it can't be over written until cleared when the SD card is plugged into a computer. The Cam records in 1080 HD at 30 fps with a 120 degree field of view. The cam has GPS (which can be turned off) and records sound (which can also be turned off). The cam sits cleanly behind the rear-view mirror (I can't see it while driving), power cables are run though the upholstery to the centre arm-rest console 12v outlet and can't be seen. Then cam also has a park mode when wired directly to the batter (with a battery saver device) which I have not installed.
