You might want to read the other thread that is running at the moment about a Thai women who has been arrested for defaming the good name of The Royal Thai Police.

Did the officer in charge of your case also have "clean hands?" :):):):)

Lets hope this is a trend that will catch on, stopping people for going through red lights is right, we got caught and happily paid the fine, we won't be doing it again!!

Sorry have this Storey a little bit wrong, policeman wrote receipt out for 500 bht initially, I said we pay you 200 bht, he say no follow to

Station, man in office say max fine 2000 bht, discount 1000 bht, we say police officer say 500 bht as on receipt, so yes they did try it on with different amounts but in the end were happy to settle for the receipted amount, impressed with the police, hope they stop many more law breakers!

I hope this catches on. I mean the police arresting red light jumpers. I have stopped on the amber ( as you should) and had cars, pickups etc, behind me, honking and even some then pulling out and overtaking me. Makes you want to spit!

Totally agree and hope the law in general gets tougher, I learn by my mistakes and won't be a sheep again!! I knew it was wrong but for some reason I decided to follow!

One of the police officers tried to extort money from you, 4 times the amount of the fine, and you say, "the police did a good job."

You offered a 200 baht bribe at the scene, but you were not charged with attempting to bribe a police officer, and you say, "the police did a good job."

You had to go back to the police station for something that should have just been handled on the side of road with "here's your 500 baht fine for going through a red light" no discussion, no haggling, here's your fine, goodbye - and you say "the police done a good job."

Sorry, I just don't see the police professionalism, and only see incompetence and corruption.

Before you post make sure you have the fact right, man said max fine was 2000 bht!!! No I did not offer a bribe at the scene, I offered 200 bht rather than 500 bht it was a negotiation! Yes the police did a good job by stopping someone for running a red light, no you do not have to pay at the roadside!! Edited by dogpoo

Are you accusing the police of incompetence and being corrupt?

After driving here for years, I have figured out the local driving style. I've adapted. I don't drive like I do here, where I have another home. They are two different styles of driving, not alone having the driver's seat on opposite sides of the car as well as traffic flow...

Good story.

Last night as I left Central after a late movie, three souped up boy racers are racing down Chaoh Fa 150+. Very loud. All the bikes are pulling far left to keep from being splattered. Red light ahead and the car in front brakes, the other two overtake and go through the red at full speed. That's when I noticed the policeman sitting on his dream at the red light. He does nothing.

You said lots of chatting and laughing in the police station, not surprising when they read 'Dogpoo' on your license!!! w00t.gif

The contents of the OP's many postings on this matter are indicative of general dog-poo's activities bah.gif

This afternoon at 3pm, at the traffic light at the gas station in Kata I watched a thai kid go early on a red light and almost crashed into a Karon bike cop! I thought for sure the cop would at least yak him a bit but nothing more than a dirty look and the kid flew past him. As always I'm amazed(not really of course) at what would have happened to me if I ran a red light and came an inch away from crashing into a cop....I'd be crucified on the spot!

Agree, nearly took out a 'tourist' on a scooter the other day who abruptly came to a halt on an intersection where 'turning left with care' was the order of the day... My fault I guess... Beware of the unexpected (I was on a scooter too, not a fortuner)!
