My house has a number of 1'' PVC pipes inserted in the walls below the floor level inside. Several Thai builders have told me that these are for injecting chemicals to keep termites away. They were installed when the house was built but I don't know if they have ever been used. I've attached a few photos to show you what I mean.

My pest control man trained in Australia, and although he has seen these same PVC pipes in houses around Pattaya they are not something that is standard in Australia so he doesn't know exactly how to use them. We have no idea how far into the house these pipes extend, whether they are perforated along their length or not, how much pressure to apply, or what volume of termiticide to inject.

The pest control guy would prefer to drill new injection holes into the tiled paths around the house every 20 cm, which apparently is his standard method. Given that I've already got a system installed, even if it isn't nearly as good as his, I'm reluctant to pay for another system. Plus I recently had the paths outside retiled, so I really don;t want to start drilling dozens of new holes.

Does anyone else have this system installed in your house, and can you give us any advice on how exactly we should use it? Thanks for any help.

Mine have screw plugs on the ends of the PVC (to keep the critters out). Anyway, we have a gas powered pump that is used (never done it myself), hooks up to the PVC and the chemical goes out the holes in the pipe at, what I assume, is fairly high pressure. You may want to buy the chemicals yourself as they are expensive and cheating is not unheard of.

Yup, we've had it from new, installed by Advance Pest Management Solutions.

They come every 12 months or so and inject something noxious, this post http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/481794-housebuilding-thread/?p=4631317 onwards has pictures of the kit being installed so you can see what's actually under the house.

I would contact their local office for advice.

Crossy do you have a contact number or web site for "their local office " ?

Thanks Crossy, that's useful. I take it that the orange pipe is perforated every so often so that the injected chemicals can spread out around the walls? I can't make it out from the photos.

My pest control guy imports most of his chemicals from Australia as although they are more expensive than the locally produced stuff he reckons they are better quality (surprise, surprise) and last longer. So I'm sure he has the right chemical to inject, but do you have any idea how much they inject into each pipe? 5 litres, 10 litres, 20 litres, etc.?

I'd also appreciate a contact number or e-mail address for Advance Pest Management Solutions. Google doesn't return anything useful.

OP this explains something for me. After your previous rec. I had him come and give a quote - so some months ago now. I also have capped pipes which the Thai company I was using used to fill every quarter. Although he seemed very knowledgeable and reckoned it only needed to be done annually I wondered why he did not include this in his quote and when I asked he then said he could do it separately.

By the way his quote for the internal/external spraying was more than twice the figure of the Thai company and as mentioned did not include the above. Unfortunately, as they seemed to do a thorough job, the thai co. has gone awol and phones are all dead sad.png

I just have the standard PVC covers that slide over the 1'' pipe. They cost 5 Baht each I think in the local hardware store.

The pest control guy has a selection of imported termiticides, so I'll trust his judgement (and honesty) on that.
