There's an interesting article in BK Magazine online this week about "Bangkok's Best 10 Restaurants to Get Breakfast."

And not surprisingly given the lack of early breakfast choices highlighted earlier in this thread, I was sad to see BKK's list start off with La Monita that only opens for "breakfast" at 11:30 am, and then go through the rest of the list with a lot of late or moderately late places for breakfast...

Only a few somewhat early ones on their list... BKK Bagel Bakery at Ploenchit opening at 7:30 am weekdays, and Chu at Asoke is open relatively early, although they don't list the exact time in the article. A lot of the rest are 9, 10 or even 11 am openings... Not exactly my idea of the likely times to be having a breakfast meal out, especially on a work day.

D&D isn't even on the BK Mag's list... Though the wife and I like it a lot for their sandwiches and cakes for lunch or brunch.

But I've never tried them for an early morning... How early do they open, 8 am or so???

Dunno if it's still around, and it's a bit out of the way unless you're along the river, but I see BKK Mag had a mention of this place in a prior 2009 recap on breakfasts in BKK:

On Luk Yun

72 Charoen Krung Rd., 02-223-9621. Open daily 5:30am-5pm
What better way to celebrate the New Year than by saying no to the constantly changing fads and fashions and simply enjoying a real ol’ school breakfast served up with ol’ school smiles and hospitality. If you want traditional Thai then On Luk Yun is definitely the much older and wiser version of Starbucks. This 70-year-old café is still trucking along opening up at the wee hours of the morning to its loyal and graying customers. Breakfast is all day and the coffee is no bullshit. You don’t order a non-fat, mocha, with skim whip and cinammon stick here, its simply sweet Thai-style coffee or nothing. The breakfast menu is equally no fuss goodness. Feast on steamed bread with sangkhaya, simple buttered toast, and two poached eggs with ham and sausage.

Certainly by 8am at the Ploen Chit branch.....perhaps as early as 7am....not sure on that one.

On Lok Yun is indeed still around.

Apart from eggs at breakfast, they sell bread and custard jam for take away all day. Runs out quickly though.....by 4 or 430pm bread is usually sold out. So you know for sure you are getting freshly made bread :)

It's not farang style bread, but I love the texture. Thick slices

Looking at all those photos of "breakfasts" makes me wonder if you all have a death wish? They have to be the most unhealthy looking plates of heart attack inducing dishes I have seen. Guess they wash down well with a beer and a smoke to finish as well?

Bacon and Eggs. Good stuff.

Have you ever noticed how unhealthy the healthy eaters look?

Frank, it looks like many (most?, all?) of your relatively few posts are recommending various things at The Game.

If you work there or have some other association with the place, that's fine. But at least disclose that....

Or sign up as a paying Thai Visa sponsor for the business.

The Great Hornbill on soi 39 is open for breakfast and has Eggs Benedict. I have had lunch there an it is relatively inoffensive.

OK... if you say so...

How many of your dozen or so posts on ThaiVisa thus far have mentioned "The Game"???

And, I guess it's just a coincidence you referred in another thread here on BKK hamburgers to the manager at The Game being from Boston, and your TV profile happens to say you were born and raised in Boston.

Or are you just LOOKING for a job as their marketing director....

Nope i dont work for them i just got back to Bkk and i like the game and yes i am from Boston. I didnt know the manager until last week and we both happen to be from Boston. I think u need a life my brother. You actually spend time in your life to try to expose me like I'm part of some conspiracy. May i suggest candy crush to you. It will fill your day with excitement and anger and distract you from the fact your a loser who has nothing better to do in life than be an anonymous prick on a message board.

My top 5 burgers in thailand

The Dukes

The Game

Iron Fairies

Just don't look kindly on those who endlessly shill for the same ONE mediocre place...

BTW, this is the "early breakfast" thread... not the "best hamburgers" thread...

But thanks for the recommendations. smile.png

Mini Bar on Suk23 under the Citadines does a great early breakfast. Or try any of the bigger Foodlands such as soi 16. And the omelette lady outside Exchange Tower is your 20 baht option.

Ya... the Took Lae Dee cafes in Foodland are open 24 hours, so they're always a breakfast option... both Suk Soi 5 and 16, among others.

MiniBar Royale, a short walk from Asoke BTS, has very nice breakfast offerings. But unless you're staying in the attached hotel as a guest, my understanding was that they don't open to the public for breakfast until 11 am.... I hate it when places with breakfast menu items do like that.... But maybe that's the breakfast hour BKK time... tongue.png

Their website says 8 am for breakfast.

PS - I like the way local farang businesses keep up their websites... The Black Swan's homepage is advertising reservations for their Christmas lunch/dinner... So they're either VERY early... or VERY late! tongue.png

A couple of updates here...

The wife and I were by Angel City Diner today for lunch, and took the opportunity to once again ask the staff serving us about their current opening hours in the morning. And we got the same answer we'd received there in the past... they open for breakfast in the morning at 8 am.... they're not operating 24 hours.

--------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, there is another place that is really operating 24 hours and serving early morning breakfasts, and that is the 25 Degrees burger and breakfasts restaurant at the Pullman Bangkok Hotel G, located on Silom Road not far from the Chong Nonsi BTS Station. They advertise their breakfast menu items beginning at 6 am and continuing through 10:30 am on weekdays and 11:30 am on weekends, though they also have some waffle, pancake or scrambled egg set breakfasts that they advertise until 2 pm on weekends for late risers.

On a recent weekend, I tried their banana and walnut waffle set breakfast for 180b++, which came with a very nice bowl of fresh cut mixed fruits, a choice of hot or cold chocolate, and an orange juice (or the option to change the latter into a mini-milkshake, which I did, choclate-banana flavor). The dish was OK and pleasant, but they appear to be using something other than traditional waffle batter, since their three mini-sized waffles in my serving came out with a dense and heavy consistency almost like that of a scone, although the flavor and toppings were perfectly fine.

I guess I'll need to try their pancakes or some of their other breakfast offerings on a subsequent visit. Their various standalone waffle, pancake and french toast dishes (without the drinks that come with the set) are all on their breakfast menu for 140b++, though watch out for the 60b++ bottles of hotel drinking water.

It would not be early enough for the original poster but I have to recommend another Soi 22 restaurant, New Cowboy, between Liberty Place Apartments and soi Sai Naam Tip 1. Their American/English breakfast range is huge and very affordable. Oh, and the food overall is very good. They serve French press coffee. But only open at 09:00.

However, and oddly enough, their Thai food is below average, except for the rice soup (Khao Tom).

Stopped back by 25 Degrees in the Silom area the other day to try their 180b++ pancake breakfast set, as a follow-up to the waffle set I reviewed and posted photos of above...

Pretty much, the same good and bad things as the waffle set. The pancakes tasted fine, but really had a dense and heavy texture, and even hard around the outer edges. Not exactly the American style for fixing pancakes, as they advertise on their menu.

post-58284-0-26721500-1374406540_thumb.j

Still, the price for the set is good, the included OJ and chocolate drink are a nice touch, and the fresh cut fruit bowl was just as fresh and flavorful as the one we had prior with the waffle set.

For the pancakes, I tried their berry flavor on the menu, which consisted entirely of a tiny cup of berry sauce on the side. Not a single actual berry either on top of the pancakes or mixed into the batter...

post-58284-0-52454500-1374406539_thumb.j

All in all, it's an OK pancake or waffle breakfast set with some nice touches, a good price, and offered early in the morning. But my least favorite things about both are the actual pancakes and waffles themselves.

I ate at Bangkok Baking Company at JW Marriott's over the weekend. Not very impressed with the breakfast. So far, in lower Suk, I like Angel City Diner the best (except for lousy coffee).

Just noticed an ad in one of the local newspapers for the Bourbon Street Restaurant, formerly of Washington Square, now located on Ekamai...

Their ad says they open at 7 am for breakfast daily.

Are you talking about the buffet breakfast at the Marriott there, or about some al a carte breakfast menu ordered from the inhouse BBCO?
