if i, as an american passport holder, living now in israel (w/israeli passport also) get pregnant by thai boyfriend (he wants me to.... ), and not married to him (visa law problems here), what would baby's status be in thailand if i were to eventually move to thailand to marry this thai man?? would my partner have to 'adopt' the baby? etc....

(or could we register here in thai embassy in israel since israel doesnt recognize civil marriages anyway, and refuses anyone holding a work visa (foreign worker) to marry an israeli citizen (for migrant workers. i doubt this applys to some hi tech foreign computer geeks... annoyed.gif )

just checking out possible scenarios....

Hi Bina! Knowing/following your story just a little bit...please think twice, your/his circumstances taken into consideration. Your situation, right now, would not grow any easier, does it?

You are in an extremely complicated/financial (your words in another topic) situation and he would not be able to support you...IF he would be caught and deported (after jail... :o ) ; you would be on your own in Israel and forced to go to Thailand and leave your other kids back in Israel.

Sorry, I can't give you advise about the registration at the Thai Embassy but I suppose he has to submit the authorities at the Embassy some sort of where-abouts in Israel or legal papers... :D

Yes, I think you should not write a book (other topic) but a script and have a movie made :D

My sincere best wishes to you.

A friend of mine who was not married to her husband when she gave birth (got married later) has told me that even tho her husband is listed as the father on the birth certificate the children are not automatically granted Thai citizenship and that acquiring it is quite difficult.

I'm afraid I don't have any more details than that.

From Consular Information, it appears that, currently, your baby will be Thai, irrespective of whether you get married or not. Contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv now to find out what documentation will be needed to register your future baby as Thai.

Regarding US citizenship, see Transmission Requirements for U.S. Citizenship:

Child born out of wedlock to a U.S. Citizen mother: A child born outside of the United States and out of wedlock to a U.S. Citizen mother is entitled to U.S. citizenship providing the U.S. Citizen mother had been physically present in the United States for a continuous period of at least one year at some time prior to the birth of her child.
Contact the US Embassy in Israel for instructions on how to register your baby as a US citizen.

Regarding Israel Citizenship, see Acquisition of Israeli Nationality

Acquisition of Nationality by Birth is granted to:

# Persons who were born in Israel to a mother or father who are Israeli citizens.

# Persons born outside Israel, if their father or mother holds Israeli citizenship, acquired either by birth in Israel, according to the Law of Return, by residence, or by naturalization.

It looks like your child may be able to have all three nationalities. However, take care so that you don't have to renounce (voluntary or involuntary) any of your citizenships.

thanx lao pao, sbk and vinny ....

first, not going there yet (the baby route, im old (43).... but i like to have just in case scenarios (too long in israel with an army plan a/plan b mentality)

usa citizenship... no prob they only need me for the citizenship passport part (and the baby)

israeli (i have citizenship therefore so does the baby)... and i would be considered a single parent family

its the thai aspect that seems problematic

at age of 18 if child hasnt lived in israel, no army problems; if here for three consecutive years, must do army or give up passport at age 18(but there are loopholes, cant remember all )

anyway, just doing long term homework as it were... and it keeps brain off of present complications...

vinny, thanx for the links, this is all hypthetical at moment.. BUT have found that the consulate here gives conflicting info from other places, as many men have also found (europe, usa etc consulates, depending on the people working there any given year)

interesting that there arent more people in these peculiar situations... thats why im doing the homework....

thanx again.... btw, im collecting all info into file so that if there are other women in same or similar, we ahve all info compiled sort of....
