Burmese laborer falls 22 floors to his death at new Jomtien Beach Condominium

PATTAYA:--A 25 year old Burmese Construction Worker plunged 22 floors to his death on Sunday afternoon at a soon-to-be-completed condominium on Jomtien Beach. Other workers watched as he fell onto a steel support holding a crane to the building which caused his body to be torn into two pieces.

Just after Midday on Sunday Police and rescue services were called to the site of Lumpini Park Beach Jomtien located at the far-end of Jomtien Beach and were directed to the area where the Burmese worker’s body was. He had already been placed in plastic sheeting and both parts of the body had been moved from where they fell.

Another sad construction worker story.

if thai people get hold of this news, not many condo's will be sold... ghost thingies hanging around you know

And his family back in Burma may never know what happened, only knowing that the meagre inflow of money he provided has stopped.

This Burmese worker was most likely not in Thailand at all; most likely no passport, no work permit, no social security nor bank or any other paper trail. So he ended up working harder for less than B300/day and another Thai screwed him most likely with lousy exchange rates and exorbitant "transfer fees" for the support he sent home to Burma.

And yes, this happens to the thousands in 2013, where the calender reads a whopping 2556 - how sad is this!

And this follows on from a 16 yr old falling from a construction site last week or so

Sadly health and safety in Thailand leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry for the labourer

There are so many people, foreigners, falling from buildings that they ought to install nets below them. coffee1.gif

That reminds me of the Laotian girl that was hit by a Porsche last year, what severed her body in the middle. Legs and belly were found at the crash scene. Upper body and head punched through the front window, and were recovered only when the car was found, resting on the front-passenger seat. Or the bicycle driver earlier this year hit by a car, and his remains scattered over miles of road because countless other cars run them over. Scenes of a war theater in peace time.

With the ammount of high rise construction taking place with an army of semi-skilled and un-skilled labour on-site, i am surprised the number of tragedies such as this are actually rather low.
