I keep meaning to write a long article on expat life in Bangkok, mainly to satisfy the curiosity's of friends and family back home that say I don't e-mail enough to let them know what I'm up to.

A few facts I'd like to get straight before typing away, are...

1: How long is Sukhamvit road and does it hold the record for longest road in Asia or anything like that?

2: Roughly how many farrang live in Thailand?

3: How would you best describe the taste of jackfruit? (Personally I think it tastes a bit like Wrigly's juicyfruit with the texture of crunchy rubber) ...But any other suggestions would be welcome.

4: How big is Bangkok? Is it bigger than London?

5: Can't think of anything else right now. :o

Cheers.

this sounds like an attempt by the local security services to profile trouble-making falangs...(the Juicy fruit suggestion is a dead giveaway).

Before answering demand details regarding type of vinegar used in a chip shop (English) or the range of sauces in a bbq rib take out place in the US to eliminate the evil operatives of the Evil Empire.

Sorry Scamp...can't be too carefull...

Why dont u just get the Lonely Planet and quote it. There is loads of useless information inside......and some good stuff too.

Why dont u explain the taste of durian......different everytime but usually leaves a horid sickly taste in the mouth for days. Some say smells like ###### taste like heaven. Not too sure about that.

yeh what is about durian, some hotels have signs that won't even let you bring it in, as the smell can raise the dead. i eat the durian cookies though and put peanut butter on top.

Sukhumvit Road goes at least as far as Trat, so it's over 300 km long. The longest road in Thailand is Phet Kasem, which goes from Wong Wien Yai in Thonburi to the Malaysian border. Phahon Yothin is probably second as it goes from Victory Mionument to Chiang Mai (maybe further).
2: Roughly how many farrang live in Thailand?

Not a clue. Don't forget there's avery large Japanese community here. They have their own school. Used to be 30,000 families. Not sure how many now.

4: How big is Bangkok? Is it bigger than London?

In terms of area, no. Even though Bangkok includes a lot of industrial areas whereas London is residential or business. Industries are outside the city. No one is quite sure about the population of Bangkok, so couldn't say.

well...you know, thetyim...never saw the Guardian as a subversive publication. I do know that those that vehemently critisize their editorial policy are usually right wing a**h**es.

durian ice cream is the best...lovely flavor, clean on the palate with no residue of vaginal fluids...(nothing wrong with that either...excellent with garlic and onions...)

There are actually over 100,000 people Japanese people living in Thailand, most of them based in Bangkok.

Sure, and they concentrate on Sukhumvit Road from Soi 15 to 24, usually do not venture beyond these points except for going to Soi Japanese School on Rama 9.

But are they called 'farang'?

Is that what causes it Axel ? :D

No, Dr. once she starts eating that stuff incl. peanut butter and perhaps some mustard, it is too late :D

On the other hand, a durian is clinically confirmed as being an outstanding contraceptive for human females, as long as they eat it instead....

I have no idea how long Sukumvit Road is ... all I know is that around 4-7 PM ... ###### breaks on that road. And oh yea ... the road runs to the eastern part of Thailand (I think it stops at Trad?!?)

Jackfruit tastes like HMM u did described it best ... You always tell your friends and family to try the canned jackfruit ... not as good but close

Or even better ... describe the taste of "SA TOR" :o

Well...you'd be brave to saddle up with her munching durian during the sports activities...thus, no product of the union. :D
