BANGKOK, April 10 – The Thai embassy in Seoul has reported all is normal in South Korea, Foreign Ministry spokesman Manasvi Srisodapol said today.

He said the embassy informed Thai people via its Facebook site that it has closely monitored the situation given the ongoing threats by North Korea and Thai people’s enquiries.

Life goes on as normal and airports are in operation as usual, the Thai embassy said.

Mr Manasvi quoted the South Korean media as reporting that the government has raised its surveillance alert to level 2, a result of North Korea’s warlike threats.

The Thai embassy in Seoul has kept Thais in South Korea alerted with updates on the situation but it would not advise Thai tourists either to continue or cancel their vacation plans to the East Asian country, he said.

South Koreans are going about their daily lives as usual and there is no sign of people hoarding food or other necessities, the embassy said. None of the 113 foreign embassies in Seoul have instructed evacuations of their citizens.

The information should be useful for Thai tourists’ decisions, it said.

It advised Thai travellers in South Korea to carry essential documents and devices including passports, air tickets, cash, mobile phones and chargers just in case. (MCOT online news)

I don't quite understand this statement. Is he saying don't let the recent news sway your plans? Or is it literal, meaning don't continue your plans on visiting S.Korea or don't cancel your plans if you have already booked?

I would think Southern Thailand is more dangerous than of this situation.

I would think it's far more dangerous being on the road during Songkran.

In fact that'll probably be the case even if the NK's do start something wink.png

second line contradicts the first:rolleyes:

.

Not contradictory at all, threats from NK are a normal everyday occurrence over here in SK. Been happening the past 10 years i have been here. Its been a slow news week - thats why the focus is on NK lately

While various threats from NK may be perceived as "normal", raising a surveillance alert level is not (AKA contradictory).

And just to add.

Pyongyang is expected to launch its untested Musudan missile with a

range of 1,800 to 2,180 miles from its eastern coast. It could reach as

far as the Japanese island of Okinawa, and Guam, where U.S. military

forces are located. The missiles could obviously also threaten mainland

Japan.

North Korea has launched various kinds of missiles in the past but with

advanced notice to clear waters before the test. It has yet to notify

neighboring nations but experts believe the launch could come any time

in light of recent tensions. They have now been spotted, fueled and ready to be launched in Wonsan,

Gangwon Province, just above the North-South border on the east coast of

North Korea. http://gma.yahoo.com/korea-bracing-norths-missile-anytime-soon-115218932--abc-news-topstories.html

Hopefully launching these untested missiles, they do not go astray, and hit an unintended target.

So what? They have artillery that can his US forces on the peninsula already. This is not really news about hitting "US forces" because they can already do that.

My point being - nobody gave a $h!t about NK until recently. They are not spewing any new threats that haven't already been said - just nobody else in the past bothered listening to them.
