naklua main road seemed fine and dry as of a couple of hours ago, around the soi Wong Amat area.

Some water throwing last night from a bar on the left as you come from the Dolphin roundabout, just before the turn to soi Wong Amat.

Nothing much.

Big day here on the 18 th.

I`ll be staying indoorssmile.png

Forget about it ending after dark. Tonight on a baht bus from Jomtien got hit four times. Between 9:30 and 10:00 ... P.M.

You and your baht buses...

Sure if you ride around in an armored car the world won't touch you. Whatever ...

What is the traffic situation like in downtown today? Thinking about going to Central for dinner (by car) but I hear rumors that all downtown is a parking lot?

I drove from Khao Talo to Arunothai tonight. Busy on Sukhunvit tonight for traffic in general.

Water throwing / squirting has started on Soi Arunothai from the small bars near 7/11.

Yes, a couple of kids throwing water on Khao Talo.

Plenty of Thai people on m/c with water tanks strapped to their backs and water rifles in hand.

Still strangely quiet. Has the £ / Baht FX rate stopped some of the hooligans coming this year? whistling.gif

From the 2013 Pattaya Songkran FAQ:

Q: Is Pattaya Songkran in decline?

A: Maybe. A number of members thought so last year. Fewer Brit yobos are coming over and the exchange rate discourages Americans and Europeans too—but not the Ozzies. Seems the Russians by and large haven't quite got into it yet; one can only imagine how it will be when they do!

Still, even if it IS in decline, it's not yet enough to make everyday life bearable for us permanent residents.

SAWASDEE PEE MAI !!!!!! It's so nice to see the Thai's so happy. After all it is their traditional New Years and they are on Holiday.

I understand people not liking the Pattaya Clown Farangs being crazy and neither do I however to the people who come on here bashing it all please just stay out of it and let the Thai's enjoy their new years. After all you are in Thailand.

SSCC, just a few kids with squirt guns so far. Nothing to avoid really.

Normally I would agree with that sentiment and I am certainly happy to see Thais enjoying their New Year. What I object to is 10 days of mayhem in Pattaya. What happens here is not part of Thai tradition or culture. If people want to enjoy themselves there is no problem provided they do not drag in other who do not want to enjoy the "fun". If I want to go from say Markland on Soi 1 to Royal Garden, Central

Festival or Tuk Com travelling on foot, by motor cycle or on a baht bus,I should have a choice as to whether I arrive wet or dry to spend a

couple of hours in an air conditioned mall. These idiots take away my choice by their ignorance and bad manners.

In the past 2 days I have twice seen mothers in strollers doing their best to protect toddlers in strollers from getting drenched. In both cases the offenders were Thai. This sort of behaviour is anti social.

In fact along Second Road and in North Pattaya generally most of the players are Thais and Asian tourist; not that many white skinned farang for a change. But whoever they are they have a right to enjoy themselves as long as they do not cause danger and annoyance others. That does not happen in Pattaya at Songran.

Anti social???????? You should have the choice to stay wet or dry during Songkran??????? WAKE UP !!!!!!!

Speaking about crash diet.

This morning I went as usual to the local Seben Eleben to buy my Farmhouse whole wheat bread, but no bread at all.Went to the next one, lucky we have Seben Eleben's every few hundred meters, but also no bread and similar at the next one. So I decided to look at the Lotat Express but also no bread.

I guess the bakery hadn't seen it coming that it gonna be Songkran this year, otherwise they would have produced some extra the previous day.

You have to love those Thai organising skills, not?

"You have to love those Thai organising skills, not?"

The logistics involved in supplying thousands of 7-11 and Lotus Express shops around the country must be immensely complex. Given the traffic problems everywhere, and the probable shortage of staff over Songkran, they undoubtedly find it difficult to maintain full supply during the Songkran period; but at least they are open and offering a service throughout the holidays.

But fail to make your favourite bread available (which is probably baked in another part of the country), then it's an opportunity post derogatory remarks about Thais again; a depressingly familiar theme on this forum.

If you compare the range of goods and services that are made available in Thailand over Songkran with those available during the Christmas and the New Year period in the West, then I think they do a pretty good job.

I tend to shop for my bread late at night or early morning. I often come across empty bread shelves at various time throughout normal weeks. Fortunately I have 6 x 711's or Family Marts (3 each) in my street.

Sorry to brake it for you, but farmhouse bread is baked and distrubuted from their bakery at Pattaya Klang, and they distibute it straight to the 7/11's and tesco's themself.

And what is that with derogatory comments Mr rose colored glasses ?

A country that makes announcements that they are the world leading hub from this or that at least twice a week, can't take a major holiday into account for the distribution of their products?

Edit : It wasn't by the way about my " favorite" bread. At the four shops I visited there was NO bread.

I bought three packs of the whole wheat toasts on number 11, glad I went shopping early this year. I was able to go buy a pack of 30 eggs at WaiChai market on Pattaya Tai this morning at 7am without getting wet smile.png

I stocked up with French bread sticks at Makro. Chopped each one into 3 pieces and put them in the freezer. Now I have enough for almost two weeks.

BigC bake their own bread. Try there if you want to venture out.

I stocked up on doughnuts too. The iced ones in BigC were down to 25 Baht for 6 !! licklips.gif

Small Tesco Lotus and 7/11 will be running out of stock fast because they depend on regular deliveries that will not be coming for some days yet.
