How much time one has before renewal of a 5 year thai driver licence. Talking about getting a new 5 YEAR DL. Someone said 1 year, another person said until the end the year in which the DL has expired. Anyone?

just done my 5 year renewal last week, you've definitely got 1 year after the expiry date and up to 3 years as mentioned in the instructional video you watch , so simple to do!!!, you need from immigration a document of residency, 300 baht but just 1 original, a photo copy will do if applying for 2nd licences, copy of visa and picture passport pages for each licence, No medical certificate, farang have to be at the driving licence office between 8:30-9:00 am, hand in the paperwork, then upstairs to do a foot brake light response test, say 3 colors as they change randomly, then wait till 10:00am to watch a 1 hourish video, back down stairs to have your photo electronically taken and receive your licences, the old days of getting a licence used to be a nightmare, definitely improved now!!!!hope that helps thumbsup.gif

last one i renewed which was in 2010 i did it about 6 weeks before it was due to expire.

why wait till it is expired or due to expire.?

Sorry!

It's the one year license you have to wait to expire.

I've slapped my wrist and I am standing in the corner.

I have the same question. An old DL post says that a 1 year
license must expire before applying for a 5 year license (if eligible) Is this
still correct??? As the old post says if you try to renew before it expires you
can only renew for 1 year. Is this still correct???
