Our daughter was born this week and we were given a pink form regarding the birth and told to take it to the office and pick up her birth certificate. This is fine but as far ss I understand it we then have to get her on the tabien bahn within 15 days after that. The thing is that we are renting a house in Banglamung at the moment and our tabien bahn is for our house in another province and we won't be going back there soon. I heard it may be possible to do it online, just not sure if it is something we do or something done by officials. Any experience of that here? Thanks.

The birth must be registered within 15 days of birth, or a fine is due.

Not sure if there is a fine for not registering on the tabien baan. if there is a fine for this, but if there is it would be in the amount of 500 baht. But otherwise you might be able o have a relative register the child on the tabien baan, with a power of attorney.

Just check with the amphur, they will see this problem often as half the county lives somewhere else than registered. Or contact dopa on their info line: www.dopa.go.th

Yes, the time limit is 15 days. If it is not done within that time, the fine is 1,000 baht. We found out about this 13 days after birth! The wife is registered way out in Issan making life difficult for us in Bangkok. Thankfully, her cousin lives in Bangkok and we got him on her Tabian Baan. It's easy to switch later. For now, that's where our son will remain. There are ramifications for social security and education depending on where the Tabian Baan is ..... think carefully ... =)

Hmm, ramifications for social and education? I guess thats only for the 30bt health system and free schooling right?

No, for bigger/well known schools the place of official residence is important as there is a fixed percentage of children from the area that have a right to attend the school. The rest of the places can be filled by students based on their grades. So if your child is registered at the area of a popular (read reputable) school, he has more chance of being accepted by that school.
