Police Crack Down On Dui

Featured Replies

I had a neighbor pretending to be upset over DUI,

but the old fart had so bad eyes so he couldn't spot a cat sitting 5 meters away,

yet kept driving

I listened to a BBC report many years ago when a lady stated that it was easy to check the blood alcohol level but no one ever checks eye sight. She reckoned that more people had accidents because of this than due to alcohol. When i got glasses: much less tired when driving, no more squinting. I no longer fall asleep at the wheel.

I tell everybody this is getting stupid, I haven't seen any posts with people agreeing to DUI! This guy same as myself is looking for advice. Grow up! This is not a perfect world and never will be.

no but there's plenty can be done to improve things - like getting drugged up or drunk drivers off the roads - they kill people

Agree.. Thai and farang of course.

it would be easy to get me off the road after some drinks... Offer affordable public transport from my home and back. As this is not available whatsoever in the outskirts of Pattaya, the only alternatives to drunk driving are staying at home or drinking soda.

Unfortunately the costs for going back and forth would be well over 500 baht and you would need to call a taxi well in advance to get them to pick you up. No, I do not use motorcycle taxis as they are more than often more pissed than myself.

//edit : this is not a defense for drunk driving, but rather as an explanation why it happens. When in Bangkok, I do everything by taxi and the car stays in the garage.

A guy like you should spend more then a 1000 to get drunk.. then the other 1000 to stay safe and not to endanger others is too much. That is something I don't understand.

For me it would also cost me about 600bt to go back and fort if i were to drink it would be not too much for me.

I do get the problem with calling in advance and such but to go to a bit of trouble once in a while when you really want to hit the alcohol does not sound like that much. I would not put my fun before the safety of others.

Seems im too responsible for Thailand.

I hardly ever spend more than 500 Baht on a night out. A beer at Leo's for instance is 80 Baht, so that would be 6 beers and tip. That's about what I drink on a normal night out. Over the legal limit, yes, but also not pissed out of my mind.

Again, if there is a way to get into town at 10 pm and back at 2 in the morning for say.. 300 Baht, I'm happy to hear about it.

If you were back in your home country the same would apply except it would be much more expensive.

In Australia if you live in the suburbs and you want a night out then you have to get a cab back. Maybe the taxi is 30-40 dollars and the night out drinking another 100 dollars.

Most people I know who live on the darkside would be over the limit when they drive home. They might not be legless but they would still over the limit. They run the gauntlet because by and large they have been doing it for years and getting away with it.
