What were the Police doing ! blink.png

See ... http://www.trizone.com.au/20130422/koh-samui-triathlon-bike-course-debacle-there-are-no-winners/

'The course is apparently simple to navigate and is clearly marked the entire way unless you have police telling you not to go a particular way. If you rode the first loop you would see that the back end loop is clearly marked with km markers for the 2ndloop of the bike.

What happened to the aforementioned chase group was the police tried to stop them and turn them around to say they were going the wrong way. The police were wrong and were told so by the four pros who continued on the correct course which included the addition back end loop (clearly marked).

The leaders were also told not to go this way by the police and adhered to this advice despite protesting that they had to ride this way.

What happened with all the following pros was that supposedly the police coned off the turn and told all other athletes to ride back to transition which completely changed the entire race. Not only did this give them a sizeable lead on the pros who rode the correct course of 20-30min (approx) but they had fresher legs from not riding the extra distance and a fresher body not riding in the insane heat.'

Excellent!

One again the abilities of the BIB have been proven to extend beyond the simple issue of spot fines for traffic violations.

Could it be that there is some kind of family tie or connection between some of the officers here and the female student in this article?

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/633259-thai-police-propose-to-extend-nightlife-closing-times-by-two-hours-to-4am/

When asked if she thought it a good idea to extend licensing hours from 2:00 am closing to 4:00 am closing she replied:

"Changing the closing time to 4am could reduce crime, particularly rape and robbery, because it will be morning

by the time would-be burglars and rapists leave the bars," she said.

I feel somehow that there is a deeply psychic link underlying these two apparently unconnected events.

Or perhaps it's merely the fact that they have something in common . . . a particularly unique mode of thought . . .

Certainly in both cases the folks concerned simply hadn't got a clue. And yet they both were confident of their opinions and in their abilities.

TIT I guess!

Not that I want to encourage any deviation form the topic - please let's not see folks spring up to chatter-on about bar closing times.

It was merely the similarly child-like conviction of " being right" that struck me. That simple confidence . . .

My guess is that the Samui police were asked to help control and supervise the event, and then issued maps and directions in English.

And, being put-together by the race organisers, these instructions, directions and maps were comprehensive and explicit. But in English.

(I really can't see any of the race admin going to the trouble of having it all translated - even then there would be problems!)

So . . . putting two and two together . . .

I didn't get which 'loop' was missed though. If it was the extra loop through banrak on the first lap only, then it could be due to a VIP being in banrak at the moment, so they simply blocked all traffic, including the triathlon athletes who might show up there at that certain time.

Well if the owner of the Lomparayah ferry or some pop star happened to come here on the same day as the Queen of England, would we expect the Queen to sit and wait behind the Samui Cones while the black SUVs with the Really Important People went banging past first? Yep.

Is there is some kind of league table of status, starting with the T R Family and descending in various steps down to factory and hotel owners?

Maybe the Gov of Sam might want to let the organisers of international events know this table in advance, please? Fair dos.

Every year there is a national heat of the Thai Mountain Bike Championships held here on Samui. It attracts 400 Thai competitors from all over Thailand and goes as smooth as silk - never a problem.

It's never advertised in English.

Anyway, who of the power people gives a sh*t about farang stuff on This island. The VIPs are VIPs.

Not one of them has ever been white - not without the bleach treatment anyway . . . and then they miss bits!

Must have been pretty high up the ladder, as there were military stationed outside a restaurant in banrak the day before.

i noticed it was written in French English. there were signs saying to stay out of the corridor. since when was there a corridor in the street.

U cannot blame the police fully. As they were under staffed and had been on call all night with the rest of the volenteer workers who came from all over surathani.

I can imagine it was more down to the fault of the organizers. The instructions have to be laid clearly in Thai and English but even more so in Thai.

If the translator is not up to sctrach then the whole event can and will go belly up.

Considering nearly all the volenteer helper and paid helpers are Thai.
