Needed: One Year Visa

Featured Replies

I'm a writer currently working on a freelance basis in Thailand. One company has provided me with a letter of invitation and company documents, which I used to come into Thailand on a "Non-Immigrant B" visa. However, the embassy would only give me a three-month, single entry because the company is supposed to apply for a work permit afterwards which then extends the visa to one year. The company is not in a position where they can give me a work permit, though.

So I've come in and out twice on three-month "Non-Immigrant B" visas but it's already such a pain and it's going to become expensive. I've got around two months left of my current visa now. I would really like to get a one year multiple entry visa of some kind but I'm not sure what is the best route. I've looked into applying as a foreign journalist in Thailand, but it seems to be a long complicated process from my research.

Can anyone give me suggestions of what to do? Is there an embassy in a neighbouring country which would give me a one-year multiple entry "Non-Immigrant B" visa with the documents I already have?

Very much appreciated, thanks!

without a work permit, no Thai consulate in the region will give a multiple non-B. Your best bet would be Australia, but no guarantees. The general rule is that they are getting stricter with visas and expect people to apply for an extension of stay if they need more time instead of a multiple entry.

Is there another one year visa I can apply for?

Without a work visa the only other way I know of is the education visa (if you google it you'll find details) or the retirement visa. The best thing to do is go and see a reputable immigration

lawyer. It may cost money but it's the safest way to do it.
