Id be very surprised if we went for Bent. He's even more 1 dimensional than Carroll! Doesn't strike me as a Rogers type player in the slightest.

Why would you be surprised? He scores goals doesn't he. Right now, a Rodgers type player should be one that knows where the net is. Who cares if he's one dimentional if he has a good strike rate, which he does.

Possession is very overated if you can't hit the back of the net.

If that were the case we would have kept Carroll. Rogers wants to play it his way and tbh it's not his fault either. The owners left him short in the last transfer window so they need to make good in the Jan window. Last night simply strengthens that case. They should have got a draw.

Oh, ok.

Well constructed response there lad.

Last night strengthened the case that you do not play players out of position. If you do you get caught out. I doubt Enrique would have been so naive for our first goal. I doubt an attacking mid for example would have probably scored later in the game and taken a chance that a defender wouldn't. It was a tactical blunder by your manager that cost you that game. And it didn't cost you a draw, almost certainly three points actually

How's that luv?

the downing/enrique job swap is beginning to look like the sort of mad tactical noose that comes to hang managers.

I think Bent would be a good fit for your lot. Proven goalscorer.

He has played 47 games for Villa. The terms when he joined Villa from Sunderland, were that once he played 50 games for Villa, they had to pay Sunderland a further couple of million quid. Chances are he aint going to be playing between now and January, especially with the form of Benteke, and the fact they wont want to pay a couple of million for nothing

I really don't get the Downing at left back bit. Utter madness. To swop them against the pace of Lennon/Walker was always going to go tits up. What confuses me is why he doesn't play a youngster. be it unproven but a specialist back nonetheless. Surely Liverpool fc have a young left back coming through the ranks!? To be fair its not just Rodgers. Redknapp was constantly pulling players out of position just to keep them on the field.

There are a couple of golden rules for me. One, you don't play players out of position and two, you don't play someone unless they are fully fit.

There are times when Rodgers and AVB have shown their age this season with strange tinkerings that just weren't necessary. I still think mind that they will both grow into fine managers given time

That's what Enrique is there for, just bad management to play the winger at left back and the left back at winger....stupidity.

Well Enrique to be fair looks a better left mid than Downing who is woeful. The drawback is that he's not likely to have much prowess when takinh on a goal scoring oppotunity. The bit that really confused me was why he didn't choose one of the up and coming youngsters of which Liverpool must have a few. I'd rather have an 18 year old specialist left back than a Downing anytime.

I also think he should get rid of Henderson for what its worth. Gerrard has to work hard enough already without carrying him.

Downing is not a left back end of.

To be fair he's not really a footballer. Just a show poney. Rather like that useless clown David Bentley

I was berated on here by someonesmile.png a year or so back for saying Downing hid in the big games! Well i'll reitterate it again because he does

Can't sack them for being crap though unfortunately.

Downing would be a whole lot better if he had a character like Dave Mackay kicking the crap out of him for not putting in 100% and generally "motivating" him towards more committed performances!

What really gets me with the likes of Bentley and Downing is that there are kids with a bit less talent out there that would literally give blood for their team.

and yet in most normal jobs that's exactly what would happen. it's like we interviewed downing for a job and everything he said and wrote on his CV was a pack of lies.

This is the wonderful world of footballs where players and managers are rewarded with millions of pounds for total and utter failure

Gotta disagree with that analogy stevie. He wasn't a total stranger who was applying for a job that the interviewing manager knew nothing about. Your scouts and manager etc are the ones to blame. He can't hide or lie about his playing skills, as they are televised for the whole world to see and critisie in slow motion if they wish. Therefore, you can only assume they must have watched him and saw something they liked which they thought would fit in the team. If you went out to buy a Washing machine and came back with a Dryer, it's not really Zanusi's fault that the machine you bought doesn't wash clothes.

yup. under dalglish and now rodgers our chance conversion ratio is laughable. if we don't sign a finisher in january we finish midtable. if we do, who knows?

It would be nice to see you finish midtable, but I suspect you'll still get a shedload against Southampton on Saturday. But then again,

Looks like another big time Charlie.......

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers claims Raheem Sterling would be "foolish" not to sign a new contract with the club.

The 17-year-old winger has made a big impact at Anfield this season and negotiations are continuing over the England international's first professional contract.

Rodgers has indicated that Sterling should appreciate that Liverpool is the best place for him to develop and he should not jeopardise that with his demands.

"He has played more games than he could have dreamed of this season, both in the Premier League and the Europa League," Rodgers told reporters.

"So I would think, if I am Raheem Sterling and his agents, I would look to tie it up very quickly.

"This contract won't be the biggest contract of his life. It is when he actually achieves something.

"If you are 17 and are playing regularly, you would be very foolish not to commit yourself very quickly. I am confident it will be sorted out soon."

Rodgers has been keen to keep the talented youngster's feet on the ground for some time, saying in September: "I want to manage the expectations of the kid.

"The last thing we need is Sky Sports coming up with a yellow bar saying he has signed a five-year contract after playing two games."

Every now and again a bored journo with no story subtracts goals from a player in from the teams overall goals and uses that to form a story about where they would be without them. The British media has zero class.. lest we forget they hacked phones so running <deleted> articles like this is nothing. It's like saying Barca are shit without Messi or Madrid are shit without Ronaldo. They were bought for a reason numnuts!

I found that a totally pointless article. If my auntie had <deleted> she'd be my uncle!
