Unfortunately so far only people defending their choices, no real answers for the op.

@ the OP, looking at the prices you mention you're comparing 2 models with more differences than just the 4wd, the price difference is not big enough for that. Personally I'd not choose the 4wd, I had one and hardly ever used it, and I never noticed a 4wd will hold value better than another type, they all hold value very well.

So I'd much rather have the better equipped car over the 4wd.

Thanks Steve for your reply. I think your right in saying that its better to get a more equipped vehicle rather than the 4wd. I've toured most of the garages in Pattaya trying to see whats on offer and personally feel that for me the Toyota is the best option....e.g. resale value, after sales and also I do personally enjoy the driving experience.

>>The black interior on the TRD and 50th Anniversary models goes a very long way to improving the feeling inside IMHO - but the tri-color TRD interior doesn't do as well as the 50th's all-black theme.

The Sportivo is only available in 2.5L, with flat white or black mica paint.

The 50th is only available in 3.0L, with flat white or purple mica paint.

Both of these special editions will % for % have slightly better resale value over a standard Prerunner - so if you can live with the higher price (and extra goodies) and the limited colors available, they would likely be the wisest choice.

At least you'd have something slightly different to Somchai average too - so easier to spot in the BigC carpark and some bragging rights at tailgate parties biggrin.pngbiggrin.png

Black mica doesn't scratch any easier than other colors, but darker colors will always show up imperfections more, but conversely also look better when well maintained.

If you're willing to put in the work (or pay for it) to keep it washed & waxed, darker colors will almost always finish better. If you're the type that likes to go a couple of weeks or months of driving inbetween washes, a lighter color would probably make more sense though..

As for 4x4 - if you don't need it, don't buy it. Thai's have long ago given up buying 4x4 versions for no reason, and they don't attract any more in the used market on a % basis. It will also cost you more to insure, and if financing mean a higher downpayment needed and probably a worse interest rate too.

Good info above, thanks. Again, I agree in what you say with the point about the 50th edition and the resale value which may have slightly better resale value in the future. Im swinging ever closer to this model and just hope that when I wake tomorrow morning my head has made a decisive decision with regards the colour! Got to say the Fortuners look excellent (personal opinion of course) in the white though the Toyota pickups look much better in darker colour (black). The pickup itself would be well looked after at home (the missus loves to clean cars/motorbikes!) so your comments above are encouraging me to go for the Black Mica....

If you go for black I think you would rue the day. In Pat's within 1 hour it would look like crap. I have a white car now and within 24 hour's it's grey.

If the OP is concerned about resale value, surely the Isuzu is the safer bet than the Vigo. soon the vigo will be replaced, the Isuzu is a new model. At the end of the day, buy the one you like. They're all decent trucks, that do the job.

EDIT: to add, the 2014 Vigo is just another facelift as I thought the "new" Vigo release date had been pushed back until 2016.

Some changes expected in New Model New Shape 2014 Major Change Toyota Hilux are as follows:

New Grill and front and rear lighting

Better ride and handling

Much better Suspension to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Much better shock absorbers

Increase braked towing capacity to at least 3000kg from the current 2500kg

Add more active and passive safety features

European steering box instead of the current Japanese steering box

Electronic Stability Control will be added to all Hilux models

Not sure where that quoted block came from, but it does says "Major Change" which means it's referring to an all-new model.

'Facelifts' are referred to by Thai manufaturers as "minor change" (normal mide-life facelift), "nano change" (special edition model or new badge level), and sometimes, "big minor change" if substantial new metal or a completely new drivetrain is being introduced mid-life.

Black is not considered a universally unlucky color in Thailand.

These lucky/unlucky colors are determined on an individual by individual basis by fortune tellers - and your lucky/unlucky color could be absolutely anything from the spectrum, and will change from fortune teller to fortune teller ;)

Mate just picked up his new TRD Sportivo 4 door 2.5L auto in white. I noticed it was the E spec, do they do J/G?. Anyway he asked me to show him how to operate the trip computer on the dashboard. I looked at it and said "you have not got a computer, that's a clock".

He 's a bit miffed after forking out a fair wedge for his new passion wagon.

In any case, I confirm that when cleaned up, black looks at its best on a car...wub.png

I've got that exact model and it does have a trip computer although computer is hardly the correct term, it's really a three function odometer.

If the OP is concerned about resale value, a 2013 Vigo may not be as good as expected after the new Hilux is on the market. Not far away if IMHO is correct about the timing of the major change in late 2014.

You will laugh. A relative from down south ignored the black thing from family and bought a new black vigo. Drove up here for Songran (not this year), muppets in a truck loaded with beer swillers pulled out in front of them, BANG, totaled the whole of the front. The police as well fined him cos his motor was from down south so it was his fault (laugh.png ). The ride was off the road for a couple of months. After this he wanted to buy a different colour. whistling.gif ............biggrin.png

If the rumors leaking about what Mitsu, Nissan and Toyota are working on for the next gen is all true, it's going to almost redefine the segment (especially diesel hybrid drivetrains, all but confirmed for Mitsu and rumored for the others), so we could see all current models from all brands being being considered 'outdated', thus resale impacted across the board.

I'm well pleased with the performance of my 2.5 Sportivo, anyone who thinks it's a slug has either never driven one or expects performance similar to an F1!

I'm just comparing it to the 2.5 4x4 Manual Vigo I had for over 6 month's but with an auto box it will be slower. Pottering around town it was fine even with a load on, but on hill's or if I wanted to get past something sharpish it was a no no. If I remember right from 80 kmph to 120 it took well over 19 sec: not loaded and that was pushing it

I now have a 3lt Fortuner auto and I thought that needed some extra power so have had it tweeked it now produces well over 240bhp never use the full power but it's there if I want.

N/B not even pushing the tuna it will do the 80/120 around 7 sec. I like to get passed thing's quick so it could be me.

Not bad, on par with a Honda Jazz in standard form, or a City.

I think it is you, my 3.0litre turbocharged Toyota Supra only did 0 to70 in something like 6.5! Although I kinda doubt your 80 to 120 time of 20 secs, perhaps if you disconnect the turbo and load the rear end down with 1,000 cases of Leo, maybe. biggrin.png

Reply to C/M.

I did the timing myself not easy that's why I put about, one hand on the wheel eye's on the road & speedo with finger's poking about on the stop watch part of my watch and I came up with 19sec but I had to change from 3 to 4. 12.5 for the 80/120 on the tuna untuned.

If anyone would like to have a go it might make for some interesting figures.

Oh and it wasn't a truck load of Leo it was Tiger. Oh nearly forgot that last bit was a 'JOKE' peep's might not get the joke bit as M/D deleted it.
