Thaksin certainly brought "Change" to a lot of peoples' lives in Thailand. He had thousands of people shot dead, for a start. Thats a big change for them & their families. He also looted billions from the Thai state coffers, which of course changed Thailand too.

And yes he is a true beacon of "Progress", when he flies to Cambodia and embraces on-camera, big cuddly hugs with Hun-Sen, the infamous mass-torturer and mass-murderer.

Maybe because of Mongolia's central position on the world stage, and its reputation of having a free press reknown for its investigative journalism. I think most westerners are condescending to Thais as most Thais are condescending to them in all fairness. A classic example being the old saying that 'Farangs can never know Thainess'. Is condescending to it's core. As it infers some sort of cultural / social / genetic barrier that farangs do not have the ability to overcome and so are (for wont of a better word),they are implicitly inferior.

Om85 - The coup leaders didn't appoint abhisit. If memory serves me right about 10 months after the coup there was an election which PPP won and were led with Somchai (Taksin brother in-law), he was replaced by Samak, who was then disqualified by the courts. Abhisit the the Dems then formed a coalition government as PPP /TRT /PTP were in disarray The coup leaders it has been alleged might have been pushing behind the scenes but that is unproven hyperbole by reds.

All the MPs from the PPP went somewhere. Some to a Thaksin proxy party, some to a Newin proxy party, and others elsewhere.
