How To Say Cheeky

Featured Replies

so how do you say it proper like its said in english

and what does หน้าด้าน really mean?

Thought I had already replied, lost in cyberspace?

ทะลึ่ง

Do you mean 'cheeky' as in a cheeky child or 'cheeky' as in 'saucy'?

and what does หน้าด้าน really mean?

It can, in my opinion have different meanings.

I'd translate as 'audacity' or 'having no shame'.

yes, cheeky child, but out of curiosity is it written differently, or can the word be interpreted differently, how would you write it? and is it offensive?

My understanding is not so. It's kinda like not being 'greng jai'. So for a farang it is ok but not a Thai??

Shameless, barefaced, brazen.

ทะเล้น is probably what you mean for cheeky child.

I thought that meant 'saucy' but I suppose a cheeky child too.

taleung is saucy, positively or negatively, depending on context.

talen is like a cheeky but cute child

na daan is shamless / "the cheek of it!!!"

Note : taleung is sometimes used instead of na daan in cases where the person who is annoyed wishes to verbally belittle the person who is being cheeky.

Another way to say is ไร้ยางอาย

http://www.thai-notes.com gives ที่ไม่เคารพ which is apparently synonymous with "impudent" or "insolent".

That's more like a dictionary definition / explanation that would be fat to stilted to ever be used in colloquial speech.

"one who is lacking in respect!"

Doesn't quite do it . . .

Thai is a conceptual language whereas English is an analitical language. You can't necessarily swap words like for like. Even among languages of a similar type there are differences in nuance and usage for like-for-like words.

In order to get to know a word you must get to know it's context.
