Having a dog is like having another set of senses. Any time time there is someone around, we know it. He can smell snakes well before he can see them and we feel a lot safer with him around. Plus, absolute and undeniable love isn't a bad thing to have around.

Is that a Kelpie?

It sure looks and acts like one, but it was rescued out of the mountains where there was no one around. It's brother is jet black with the same lines.

Hopefully you will be one of the very few foreigners who actually discipline and exercise their dog on a leash and clean up after the dog defecates in the street. Most just leave the dog 24/7 on their property with no exercise and zero effort to control their dogs constant barking.

Reminds me of this:

Find a good vet and have this discussion there. Our dog is tick free now but we find them crawling all over the house! They must have been evicted from the doggie condo.

Check out this thread some handsome guy started..... http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/637044-tick-season-is-here/

My GF has 2 toy poodles, and they are sharp. Picked up every command after only a few repetitions, and can far better communicate with me what they need than my large dog, a Pit Bull. It's always a joy to watch them fighting and chasing each other, they are fast and agile. You wouldn't expect dogs small like this, both about 4 kilo, to jump from the street up into my arms, to more than a metre. They can do. Our security system works like this, the poodles with their sharp senses register something out of order and bark, and that gets the juggernaut to investigate the issue, and add some serious jaws to counter it.

The neighbour has a big Rottweiler that loves to fight with my Pit in a friendly manner. What amazes me is how the two large dogs take measures to not hurt the small ones when they tussle, no matter how worked up they are, they pause for a brief moment when the small dogs are too close, they don't run them over, but rather jump over them. Or both poodles standing on their hind legs, stretching as long as they can, trying to lick with the Rottweiler, who likes it a lot. Looks to me that dogs can be more social than humans.

The presence of the Rottweiler and Pit keeps soi dogs away in a large circle, about 100 metres.

I'm grateful I have the opportunity to own a dog that's outlawed were I come from, and she's nothing like the wisdom of the people who hate this breed says she would be.

Sorry to the cat-lovers, though. She got one earlier this year. It thought it'd be safe on the wall around our home, some 2 metres high, where she walked along proudly and calmly. Big mistake. Hope it was a stray, not a loved one.

A dog never talks nonsense, never cheats you that bad, never asks for money or hangs on the phone talking complete nonsense with friends for hours and is not addicted to it's family and also not turns it's back at you after slightest disagreement.

A dog is loyal, enthusiastic, it's love is true and she is happy when you arrive back home.

A dog's love comes without strings attached

Yeah? Don't feed it for a month and see what happens.

I actually put more value on a cat's love.

A dog loves anyone who feeds him, more or less.

A cat's love cannot be bought, and they are perfectly capable of holding in contempt those who feed them. So when a cat deigns to love you, it really means something...

Unreasonable argument ! blink.png

Same that - Better feed you nothing for a month and see what happens! coffee1.gif

Cool vid ! This sums up every reason why every man should own a dog. F@@k I wish I didn't live in an apartment, buying a dog would be the first and most enjoyable spend I could make if I had the room.

Best friend, running coach, security guard, therapist (very good listener) foot warmer (when hubby has the a/c temp set too low) pest control and proven asset in informal business meetings...so many roles she fills, so many ways she enhances our lives!

Not at all true, a cat will go wherever the food is and only loves itself, a dog on the other hand may take food off you and even like you, but its love of it's master and family knows no bounds. It will amuse you, comfort you, defend you and love you to the death!

Be sure to click on the cat option, it's hilarious.

Actually my cat gives me a warm greeting if I've been away long, but it's done with obvious ambivalence as she is ioth glad I'm back and angry I left and needs to express both. So I get alternating displays of affection and little swats from her paw to show her displeasure at my treachery.

The dog holds no such grudge, but he does like to carry on and imply he has suffered heinously in my absence..puts his little paws up on my knee and wimpers pathetically. (It's complete ^%$* since I go to great lengths and expense and hassle to ensure he stays with people he knows and loves and is well spoiled.).

Which no doubt is in the kitchen, disgusting!

Hardly. It is in the bathroom, where else?

I know people who have successfully trained cats to use the toilet.

If you live in the countryside or a village you need dogs,( & Chickens) to keep the biting & stinging wildlife away, What the Dog won t handle a Rooster will & vice versa, + free dinner with the chickens & their eggs, (Dogs as well if you like that sort of thing...) wai2.gif

Now this is important news. What exactly do Roosters keep away? Are you saying they eat scorpions and the like?

Yes they do...

And Roosters & Chickens eat Termites, quite Important if large portions of your House are made of wood...

Very interesting and if it were not for the crowing at the crack of dawn (more like an hour before dawn) thing I'd give it serious thought....

Home help opened the roller shutter last week only to have a snake fall on her then slither off to unknown parts in all the confusion.

An hour later the dog kept seeking attention then trying to guide the maid to the kitchen. Sure enough the missing snake was hiding under the stove.

I noticed lots of local people own dogs. It is also cheaper to purchase a dog and vet bills and dog food is not so expensive as in Europe either.
