Hi,

The missus wants a vacume cleaner, she saw one for 2000bht with 900 wats.

I've been searching on the internet and see that most models have between 1200 and 1800 wats for the same price,

My question is how many wats is decent.900-2000 or more.We only have a small bungalow I just want to make sure all the dust is picket up because I have an allergy to dust,I don't want to spend more than 3500bht.

I hope this is the right forum because i will definitely not be doing it myself.

you know wat I mean

I would go for whatever she wants - since she's the one to be using it. Yah?

Usually, the more watts the more suction. My experience is to choose good brand with attachments that you will need.

The missus got something bout 900w, she reckon it sucks good............ dont bother askin bout brand or what ever.......it aint somethin I use.

O.K,

So if 900 wats is sufficient,1600 should be fine, that keeps me in th 2000bht price range in tesco,

Unless anybody else says I need more wats.

For comparison: we have an 1800W Samsung that could maybe suck start a Harley. It has all the attachments that seem to be good for cleaning. Actually, the gf opens the vent most of the time (to reduce the suction). Anyway, she likes that one.

Don't get focused on "watts" too much; instead, ensure the vacuum has good suction and is not too loud. Loudness can vary quite a bit between vacuums cleaners which have basically the same suction and wattage rating. Have the salesman demonstrate/turn-on the models you are interested in to "feel" the suction and "hear" the loudness. Then consider just how "study" the vacuum cleaner appears because I'm sure you don't want parts of it to start breaking too soon.

P.S. my wife (a home cleanliness advocate) has two different vacuum cleaners (one a Eureka and one a Samsung...one lives upstairs and one lives downstairs) and she has issues with each one....for one she feels it's too loud and the other one she not crazy about the type of canister/bag use to catch the dirt, but between the two she prefers the Eureka. I don't think the perfect vacuum cleaner exists or is it you can never satisfy a woman.

good advice on noise level - in general, a loud vacuum clean may suggest a lower motor quality, or in another word - short technical life.

I do vacuum . . . I have a big 1600W PHILIPS vacuum cleaner for 16 years ( touch wood :- ). noise is lower than others, and less harsh too. it sucks well even fine dust in between floor tiles. I also have a NATIONAL compact 1200W, it screams like hell but only picks the big pieces, fine dust still on the floor.

another problem with the NATIONAL, it comes with a cloth dust bag and someone needs to clean and wash it. there are paper bag alternatives but always out of stock.

if you could stretch your budget to THB3,500, then find a balance between high W and less noise. mind you, it may be a bit bigger though.

We have a Samsung 1800 watt vacuum with a 2 year warranty. It is a bag-less canister type with a speed (volume) control so that you can adjust the speed (and volume) to your requirements. On maximum it will suck up everything within six inches of the nozzle.

However, after about 18 months the motor began to smell of an "electrical fault", but Samsung, via Siam TV, replaced the motor with no hassle.

Thanks every one,

Seems kike the wattage problem is solved.

And I will make sure it's quiet.

I hadn't even begun to get into the bag/bag-less and other types.

Is there a simple answer to what is available and which is best,

This has helped me a lot,i would have been going to the shop blind this time yesterday.

Go bag-less, the dust is separated by cyclonic action - maybe a bit noisier than a bag type, but bag-less is easily cleaned - just take the dust collecting section outside - empty it in the trash can and then give it a good hosing ready for next time.

And if you plan to go into the tourist business be sure to get a model that comes with a "tourist pocket sucker" adapter. All the jet ski operators in Pattaya buy such models. tongue.png
