sad.png I am in Udon Thani province, I am Austrian, I sometimes frequent German speaking Expat meeting points in Udon city,

possible I met him.

I will ask when I am in Udon city.

Think, that is the third Austrian killed in Udon province in the last 2-3 years, bah.gif

one stabbed by his wife 21 or 27? times, in self defense, as she claimed, blink.png

one killed with a machete by his wives sister husband (his wife was also killed in the incident) the murderer hanged himself afterwards.

Dangerous place for us Austrians. whistling.gif

bloody austrians.. trouble, the lot of you tongue.png

a sad waste of life, seems to happen far too much here.. or they just don't have anything else better to report?? anyhow, Ruhe in Frieden

A terrible event, but he will rest in peace because he will be able to meet his royal countryman Archduke "Franz Ferdinand" who was

also killed outside Austria together with his wife in Sarajevo (Bosnia) on June 28. 1914. and he will guide him in his new surroundings.

RIP.

His name was Guenther...the guy was 70, for f sake. It was his time to go anyway. I wouldn't like Udon Thani filled with walking corpses of my fellow Austrian country men anyways, or would you?

It might sound a little harsh, I know. But 70? Come on?

He probably is reborn already as a Thai girl, who will become a notorious Bargirl, to take revenge on all western men, or that's at least what I pray for (secretly), when my wife drags me into the village temple.

How sad. RIP to the Austrian.

I know many people of different nationalities who have divorced their Thai wives. In every instance it was because large sums of money were spent, overtime, without the husband understanding where it went. Their wives could not explain it adequately and usually the discussion ended in a row with the wives screeching "you farang, no understand" etc etc. These wives were not all ex bar girls. Some were well educated and had businesses or professional careers before marriage.

Money seems to lead to huge issues here and these Thai wives all reacted very quickly and badly when challenged. It seems from the OP that this lady was prone to use violence.

Before one of the nit picking members will ask you to prove the statement "in every instance"; I fully understand what you mean as well as most other normal members. Money is the root of all evil, and for sure money matters more to most Thai (Oh flip I will be asked to prove this) people because their government does not support layabouts like the western word does. I agree with you that it is not only related to bar girls; the educated ones seem to be more prone to this (Oh I have done it again) Pimay1 will have a field day with this post - knock yourself.

My ex is an educated one. A qualified Civil Engineer with an MBA, speaks Chinese, English and Thai (and was learning French -I'll call her 'Ami' for the purpose of this post only)); Management job in a hospital in *********, etc etc etc. Liar and Thief: A Hi-So prostitute who got her money by playing the long game. Give me a real Bar Girl any day - Much more honesty there than with Hi-So thieves who profess their hatred of Isaan girls, Bar girls and so on. 'Ami' earned more from me in 6 years than she would have done in 20 years of Hi-So jobs. So to me it's these types that are so dangerous.

Im new here and just cannot believe how racist and sexist most of the comments are! sad.png

Unfortunately it's easy to dismiss a valid comment as racist and/or sexist. Political correctness is an easy get out. People comment based on their experiences - often gained over a long time.

Like you say, you're new here.

she had a tandem relationship which speaks of her (bad)character. I suspect that she even had more relationships running, even with her son's father or family in one or the other way.

Even neighbours realized her character. She probably has many contacts in Bangkok and elsewhere where they discuss and execute scams of all sorts. Thailand has one of the largest pimping industries in the world surfacing in different ways and often the afterwards soothings' skillfully implemented.

I think in this case there's no way out for this creature.

How old is her son?

If she would be innocent she'd talk, talk and talk ... would be shocked about the death etc..

At least bail should be denied since she'd use all her swindled assets. Maybe then she will be more talkative ...

Unfortunately this is becoming more frequent now, but would a Thai woman attempt to beat a Thai guy in a money argument? Of course not! I still love Thailand and all it's beauty but getting emotionally involved with another Thai woman after one failed marriage is another story, filipino girls are more gentle and more caring and less money orientated, RIP for that poor guy and if she is guilty I hope she rots!

I chose very carefully when I married. Every time I read things like this, I am grateful. My wife is a kind person, watches no TV (no Lakonrs ever), is enlightened and capable of having an intelligent conversation about any breakdowns we encounter in our relationship. She is a professional and wants us both to enjoy a happy fruitful life. She never asks for money; we discuss allocating funds (from either of us) in ways that benefit us. Sometimes we invest in her business.. sometimes in mine. She sends no money home - she has borrowed from her family when we made downpayment on the condo. And she returned the money on time. Her family are middle class but her parents never studied past Grade 6 (Paw 6). They are Thai Chinese. My wife is not the most beautiful woman I have dated in Thailand (there have been hundreds). But I am so very glad I chose her.

I am sure she is very proud that she ended up "number 1" of the hundreds.

TING TONG ! bah.gif

It's not ok to kill at all. But I have to admit that I prefer a 70 year old, single old fart, waiting to be dead in Thailand, to pass away more than, a young family father who is still having half of his life in front of him, or for that matter anyone who is under forty, boy or girl.

And your life expectansy? Most people are just alive anyway waiting to be dead, instaed of living their lifes to the fullest. By the time I get 70, which I and everyone who knows me doubts sincerely, my kids are grown, my wife has 2-3 gigs, and I hope she will have them. And I'm off being a naughty old guy, going for the BOOM Leaving Las Vegas Style. And if I won't die out there going down in a fury blaze of fire, I'd actually prefer that my wife would kill me. Better than sitting and lying around somewhere, being someones pain in the a-ss, waiting to be dead. It's not how long you live, BUT HOW YOU LIVE.

36 years from now? I don't even know where I'd be a couple of years from now. Maybe I'd be in Thailand, maybe I'd be in Austria, or maybe I'd be in Amsterdam dying from a fatal heart attack due to drugs, alcohol, and Viagra under a prostitute. I find the the latter thought actually quite appealing, but I'd rather wait my kids are grown up first.

I wonder why most of you guys still don't get it? Thai women marry elderly western men only for 2 reasons.

1.) The old guys got more money, because younger guys are still working, and haven't safed up much money yet, and are still out there enjoying their lifes, making mistakes. At least that's what the Thai women think, and they are not so wrong about that.

2.) The old guy dies faster, or quicker for that matter, and she would then inherit what he left and go look for a younger guy. Or for another asset (Falang) The older the better is what they say. "Old man big money, die quickly"

The Thai man understands that. Why do westerners have such difficulty?

And that brings me back to Guenther. He was 70. He decided to spent the remaining years he had in Thailand. He went to a less fortunate place on earth, so he could get served his coffee, had his laundry made, believed he was the "Tirak" and allowed and accepted to be walked down the road like a dog. It is out of the question if he got killed or not. He's dead . Died in Thailand at the age of 70. Fair enough. And on top of that he left money for less fortunate people like his Thai girlfriend.

In my POV Thailand is no country for old western men. Thais are tough. And if they wouldn't allow their women to pamper elderly rich westerners, walking them down the road, doing every little deed for them, because they can't even read the simplest road sign, then a lot of Falangs wouldn't stand a week in Thailand. But the Thais tolerate that. And the westerners do what? They always consider foul play at first.

Pfff....give me a brake. We are the outsiders in Thailand, and the Thais make that crystal clear. It can't get any clearer than that.

People live, and people die. Better a 70 year old, than a young guy. At the end the old have to make space for the young. It's just the way things are. One way, or another. And one day, it will be my turn, and yours, too. Your life expectansy diagnostic analyses won't help you there.

I understand you must think that I'm completely TING TONG. I probably am.

But at least I'm free, without any expectations for, or from me to someone else. And Guenther would have agreed with me. Because he must have known that his time was near.

Ask yourself. How long do you want to live? And then ask yourself why.

And a big applause for Guenther. I believe he lived a wonderful and long live, giving his last breath to the LOS.

Best Regards

"The body of the man, Gunther Gruber, was found about a week after he had been murdered.

She, took up residence with another foreigner from Germany for the other 6 months of each year.

the woman often beat the man.

Recently, they fought over allegations that her son had stolen the key to the man’s safe and stolen money.

Police say the accused beat the man with a stick/pole and he fled from the home on crutches and climbed over a fence in an attempt to escape."

The more I read stories like this, the more I wonder why we even bother at all. Then I remember success stories such as my friend who lives with his Thai wife in the US. She is very careful with his money and usually has her own money since she works for a Thai doctor who is well known in the community. The local Thais are very supportive of my friend and are unusually helpful in many situations. Plus it gives his wife a place to go and speak Thai with friends and thus alleviate loneliness. The number of tragic stories seem about equal to the success stories when bargirls are not a factor. Anyone who thinks that a Thai woman is free of duplicity and conivance simply because she is not a bargirl, is missing the plot.

So who actually backs up all the allegations? Has there been a confesion?

It seems to be enough for the police and the court,

"On 8 May, the court issued a warrant for the arrest Chawiangwan Sriratchana, 44, accused of murdering her 70 year old Austrian husband approx 14 April 2013."

"Gunther Gruber, an Austrian male aged 70, decomposing body found dumped and partially buried in April 2013."

Exactly. Good stories, and bad stories. But we all tend very easily to over react to the bad stories. 70 with a big seven and a big 0, murdered, beaten, etc....big words, scary really.

I think he knew exactly what he was doing.

Doesn't anyone wonder why Guenther chose to be with this people? Did they keep him from leaving? Could he have left at any time he wanted to. Did Guenther do something to provoke such violence? Did Guenther ever tell someone about the previous beatings?

Allegations, allegations, allegations....where is the other side of the story?

First boyfriend, now husband? What now? Husband or boyfriend? Partially buried. Ok. Do you know where?

And the police and court always have enough. If guilty, yeah lock the ones responsible up. Sure. What was the motive? That's what is more interresting. Don't you think?

Husband or BF, not really important. lost in translation.

Body found behind the house and the fenced land, seems, he climbed over that fence to get away from the beating. Body had signs of beating ect.

Motive? Conflict over (stolen) money and a as it seems, a woman, who easy could get in a (deadly?) rage!

I think I met the man in an Udon Expat meeting point, at "Erwin's", he was very fragile and used crutches.

Maybe I mixing that with another conversation, but I heard, from others make jokes, that he got hit from his GF?

If I come to Udon city, I will have some more Information. whistling.gif

One reason to get the Thai wife to the home country for an extended stay. They get savvy about money and see the big picture. Cured my wife of excessive family charity.

Why is it that people feel the need to make pronouncements on something about which they know absolutely nothing.....and apparently do not have the intelligence to interpret a simple Thai media report without making huge assumptions.......it doesn't help anyone but makes themselves look downright ignorant.

Stop making pronouncements!

you are misquoting that biblical phrase is is not "Money is the Root of All Evil" it is

"The Love of Money is the Root of All Evil" and Thai people love money

Don't want to offend any Bible folks, but the love if money is

obviously NOT the root of all evil. It is so obvious that should

need no discussion.

The evil of jealousy, ignorance and xenophobia, all of which

are so common on TV, usually have no connection to money.

No prejudice against Thailand. Obviously I am here now, but I wish I had these rules before. Love is one thing. Marriage is another thing. Legal systems around the world are prejudiced against men (except Arabic cultures).

Love each other, live together, be happy. Do not put a noose around your or her neck by way of Legal marriage. Do not waste time, money etc. in case things go sour. If she insists - she has a reason.

The Thailand specifics is - you are a Farang, she is Thai. In terms of your rights here you are less than a soi dog (it is Thai). If you really love her you can always secure her future without marriage. Maybe even your happiness will last longer this way. Who knows? Once again, if she insists - be careful! And have a happy life!rolleyes.gif

Thanks for that, I though maybe you knew something which made getting married in Thailand worse if things end than getting married in the west. We have a law here in New Zealand, that if I am in a relationship with a woman for 2 years she has the right to half of my assets.. she does not need to marry me to take half of my assets, only stic with me for 2 years. If you dare leave a girl between this time, and do it too many times, you risk being labelled a "dirty" man.

I think that the tragedy is that Gunther went at the hands of someone that took the right to live away from him, yet the same courtesy will probably not be given to her. Say may even benefit financially as a direct result of his death through interference of his assets (inside, and maybe even outside Thailand). It is important that articles like this come out so we all understand that your little angel may have the devil inside, and tomorrow you might be having a brew with Gunther too. It is important to do our best to position ourselves away from harms way, greedy people, and the criminal elements of Thailand. Unlike most of our homes, any establishment of protection mechanisms (you call them mafias at home) to protect ethnic minorities are quickly stamped out here. We, as the white men, as the chocolate men, are the easy pickings.

It's not just a Thailand thing.

My USA wife filed for divorce when I demanded a written accounting for a large sum that went missing without a clear reason.

When I pushed again, she got a restraining order and had me removed from our house.

I suppose I should be thankful I didn't end up dead in the garden.

Have known a few guy's in their 30's who were unfit slobs, with a large space between their ears, have also known a few guys in their 70' s and even 80's who were mentally very clever and also physically fit. You might have recently read of a 103 yr old British Singh who is still running marathons, would you also think it would be OK to have these people put down at 70, and what method would you suggest?,being Austrian yourself, perhaps the gas chamber.

PS, to call you Ting Tong, would be insulting to people who are Ting Tong.
