Hi, does anybody know if it is necessary to rent the decoder box from true, or is it possible to buy a generic one?. Or what is the alternative to renting theirs?

Thanks

I assume you mean True satellite service.

When you sign up they send someone out with the decoder, the dish and the card you insert in the decoder. There is a decoder fee that's charged annually in my case since I opted for annual charges or, I suppose, on a monthly basis if that's your choice.

Recently they replaced my decoder with one that handles HD, for no additional charge.

I'm 99% certain if you want the service that you're obliged to use their dish and decoder as part of the installation package.

You can call them at 02-725-2525 to be certain, but I doubt very much that they would permit other equipment aside from what they provide.

Not correct. the new HD receivers are readily available on the internet for around 4500 baht or less, or if you wish the SD receivers for 1500 baht from quite a few online retailers. ie. www.9sats.com or www.satthai.tv Of course you have to install them yourself.

You can purchase one of your own, but you will have to have your sim card matched to it, otherwise it will stay blocked.

You will need to call true about using your own HD box.
