Mae Sai Visa Run May 19

Featured Replies

I am considering renting a car and doing the Mae Sai visa run from Chiang Mai on Sunday May 19th. Anyone interested in joining me and splitting the cost? It would be much more comfortable than being jammed into a speeding minivan.

Or, if someone is already driving up and would like gas money, let me know.

sorry to be blunt, but a guy would have to be crazy to travel in a mini van in Thailand!

Yes, you're looking at sharing a car, but for a few hundred baht, you can travel in air con comfort in a green line bus, have a read, a snooze, and arrive there in comfort and return 3 hours later.

I need to go to mae sai, but have to do it tomorrow, 15.5. Are you interested?

I agree Masuk... I absolutely hate taking minivans in Thailand. Not only for comfort but, for safety. The last couple of times I did it myself on motorbike over a couple of days. Wasn't bad but, now that the rainy season is kicking in, I am a little apprehensive to go by bike.

I was told the bus takes forever. Something like 6-7 hours one way? I'm not too fond of the buses in Thailand either with all the crashes....but at least it won't crush like a tin can if it were to get into an accident.

no. the bus is about four and a half hours each way. Arrive in time for your entrance to Burma, buy some duty free, new stamp in your passport on the Thai side and a relaxed lunch.

Then red van back to the bus terminal and arrive back in Chiang Mai about 8pm.

I went last week on the green bus return around 800Bt and very good cake and a drink inc I thought of driving but very happy I changed my mind
