May 15, 201313 yr And I do mean Hamburger buns. I have an imported BBQ and am toying with the idea of setting up my gf so she can sell "Farang Burgers" fries etc. on the road somewhere. I already know the cost of real Beef etc. however I can't seem to find decent sized buns. Just the regular ones that would not accommodate a decent sized burger. Any suggestions anyone has is appreciated. I mean should I just use Kaisers or what would you folks want if you were buying a real burger.
May 15, 201313 yr Friendship Supermarket,Makro,Big C Extra or Foodland. Guess Friendship suits your wishes the best although i have bought hamburger buns at Makro a few days ago and they were quite ok. Not the sweet bread and big enough also. 6 buns for 30 or 40 baht, quite cheap!
May 15, 201313 yr Author Thank you but like my OP says, I am NOT looking for the regular size buns that you can buy anywhere that you mentioned. I already know I can buy those. Please re-read my OP. Folks, when I say a decent size hamburger I am not planning to sell little burgers that would fit inside the type of bun that juliust mentioned. That is why I am posting this ad.
May 15, 201313 yr Author Dinner rolls from Continental, 9 baht each? Continental? Don't know it however you might be right with dinner rolls.

Could be handy if you actually mentioned a size. Not everyone has the same idea about big or small.

May 15, 201313 yr Author Well I'm sure most people know when I say that "regular" size is the ones that you can buy in all the stores mentioned in the bags of 10 or so as in this picture. I guess what I'm trying to say is if we want to sell a decent sized burger I want a decent sized bun. I have seen the regular buns in Foodland etc. etc. so I am NOT looking for those or I would not be asking here for BIG buns sorry. Anyways folks thanks for the input but I will just try the bakery and chose some as mentioned like dinner rolls or something. I was hoping to hear from members that if YOU wanted to buy a decent cheese- burger what would you like? (Other then fixings) I mean for a good bun.
May 15, 201313 yr Guess Continental is the way to go then, they have indeed a bigger size bun, twice this size of the ones on the picture and quite tasty as well. They are located on Khao Noi in the Darkside, at Thapraya Road and soi Xzyte. BUT the most important question is where will your GF sell this farang burgers ''on the road''? Maybe some TV members inhere are interested in this kind of burgers but it all depends on the location and how hygiene it is as it is sold outside at a market stand perhaps?
May 15, 201313 yr Bake the buns yourself. It's not difficult. Flour and yeast available at Lotus. I bake all of my burger buns weekly. Edited May 15, 201313 yr by chiangmaikelly

Well thanks for that but soi Khao Noi IS on the dark side however it does not intersect with soi Xzyte as that is on 3rd rd (the old Xzyte Disco) and Thapraya rd is in another area all together. Correct me if I'm wrong but maybe just give me a location on khaonoi as in a soi. Is it a bakery? Continental I mean. PS: I don't think that the mods would be happy about me discussing my business plans in here because I don't think it's allowed. Anyways I'm just tossing the idea around right now. Sure we will need to find a decent location and I'm hoping maybe on SSCC. It would be just like the greasy ole burgers we get back home with real beef, french fries and a cola. Of course it would be clean and hygienic. I know it's still hard to find a decent burger in Pattaya and trust me I have tried and only found a few but nothing on the dark side. I BBQ pretty much every night so the gf knows how to cook but normally I make Chicken & ribs and Hamburgers only once in awhile. hmm this isn't posting now. I hope now it doesn't post multiple times. May 15, 201313 yr Gary sells jumbo sized burger buns at his food shop next to The Rendezvous Bar & Resort out on Siam Country Club Road by Lake Maprachan.

Thanks looking forward to try out your burgers What i tried to say that Contintal bakery have 3 different branches in Pattaya, so 1 on Khao Noi, 1 at soi Exzyte and one at Thapraya Road If you live near SSCC then the one on Khao Noi is the best option. If you drive from Sukhhumvit its opposite the 2nd wet market you will see. Its in a shophouse a little bit further then the wet market on your right hand. Its difficult to park inthere but if you are lucky you just park it at the side of the road and walk to the bakery.
May 15, 201313 yr Talk to the German bakery associated with the hasestall restaurant on Soi Khao Noi. They make custom sized breads of any kind upon order. Sent from my GT-N7000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
May 15, 201313 yr You might try Rick's Bakery. They have English style baked goods. They don't have a walk-in shop. It's more like a bakery factory located off Soi Watboonsampan on the dark side, near the Red Lion Pub. They had 90g/110g/130g buns. Prices were 8/9/10 baht each (prices might have gone up since I last ordered). The buns are quite large (even the 90g buns). I found them too big for my needs, but they were very good. They'd be great for jumbo burgers. They deliver to areas in Pattaya/Jomtien daily and supply bakery products to restaurants, Friendship Market, etc... Bread orders for next day delivery need to be ordered before 6 Pm. May 16, 201313 yr Gary sells jumbo sized burger buns at his food shop next to The Rendezvous Bar & Resort out on Siam Country Club Road by Lake Maprachan. I think you will find he gets his bread etc. from Continental bakery on Khao Noi.
May 16, 201313 yr How about contacting one of the local bakeries? On Khao Talo (right side as you head up from Suk road between soi 5 and the market) there is a bakery that sells fresh bread. I'm sure there are other bakeries that might be able to accommodate you.
May 16, 201313 yr Author WOWWWWWW, Thanks for all the great replies people. This gives me many options but seems that khaonoi is the closest for me. Sure saves me driving around all over in this heat trying to find them. What an awesome forum !!!!!! Will let you know if and when and where we set up. If anyone knows a small area that she can set up the BBQ, 1 or 2 tables etc. (you know what I mean) in a decent area on the dark side that would be great. I know we pay for the space and electric etc and she can ask around but hey you guys/girls have been wonderful so far so you never know.
May 16, 201313 yr I for one would like to see a place selling farang style snacks on the darkside late at night. There used to be a German guy with a small concrete kiosk on SSCC, on the left side going east. I can't remember exactly where it was, somewhere in the middle, nor if the kiosk is still there.
May 16, 201313 yr A perfect place would be the corner with the traffic light. Then my wife can get a burger for me and somtam for her. I also like to hint that there is a market for Dutch junk food....frikandel special, bitterballen etc. Near that corner lives a German who comes from the Dutch border, and another Farang who used to live in Luxemburg for a while... It is of utmost importance that your shop is open until the small hours, to be precise at least half an hour longer than the closing time of the last shady watering hole on the darkside. Having a beer cooler might double your turnover.

Having a beer cooler might double your turnover. Good idea. The thing is real-estate where people can stop in a car on a corner is far and few between. We will look along SSCC tonight and she can ask some businesses if they can rent the outside where she can have 2 small tables and sell take-away or sit down (in front of a fan of course). Yes having beer is a good idea too and I understand the we hours after bar closing time but I think if she starts around 5:00 pm around dinner time would be a good start but then there is slow times until late to be honest. Will have to see how it goes. We need a spot she can chain the BBQ table, chairs etc. and leave it there if anyone knows a place. If not we will find and keep you posted. I will guarantee that they will be the tastiest, greasiest burgers you will get. Just like back home lol. Thinking of (Burger, fries & cola for 180 baht) big burger with cheese and bacon etc and all the fixings. I see in the restaurants burgers are 120 - 150 and french fries are 75, and cola is 20b so I think it's a good deal? Might sell beef and/or chicken shish-kabobs and maybe some hard tacos as the fixings are the same as you put on burgers. See what happens.
May 16, 201313 yr The corner raro mentioned at the traffic lights is just outside a 7/11 so drinks are not going to be a problem The are already a couple of thai food shops in this location, noodle soups, somtam, etc. As for a price reference, Pattaya Beer Garden charge 130 baht for a decent sized cheeseburger, served with fries on China in a premium location. The famous Aussie burger stand on Soi Diana charge 100 for a larger cheeseburger iirc.

I totally agree about this corner and luckily i will be moving back to SSCC again so that would be quite close for me But the Dutch treat you can find it at the Brassmonkeybar on the end of Numplabwan. Personally i dont think Dutch snacks will work at a street corner foodshop, better to focus on food which most farangs will buy as there aint a lot of Dutch people around here. And all Dutch which wants to have a Dutch snack they will go to one of the Dutch restaurants at the Darkside or Jomtien, same like i do sometimes IMHO good hot dogs, hamburgers and kebab would be a good deal but then you should advertise on this forum to attract more customers so all TV members now where to get your food

Do you mean way up SSCC near the market on the right and is a "fairly" newish area with the 7-11 and the major x-roads? I will check it out today. To another post, I'm not sure if I am allowed to advertise here on TV. Maybe one of the mods can clarify this? Yes the OZ Burgers on soi Diana are the best I have had yet. I think 150 - 170 baht for Burger with cheese, bacon, French Fries and a cola is a good price? Let me know what you all think please? I have to consider the area rent, electricity (minimal), my propane, the cost of food, buying a big cooler, ice every day etc. This I think brings the cost to us for each set around 100 baht. If the ole lady even sold 10 sets per day her profit would be 500 baht at 150 baht per set. Not too bad I guess. I went to buy some kabobs once at Foodland. I bought 2 beef and 2 pork. The beef was 125 baht each and the pork was 75 baht each. I left the 2 beef and bought 4 pork haha. If we sell beef ones maybe 75 baht each and pork or chicken maybe 50 baht each?
May 17, 201313 yr We are talking about the corner of SSCC and Nongprue Road. That's the road leading to the Crocodile farm and the Elephant village. It has a traffic light (usually set to blinking), a 7/11 on one corner and a Lotus Express on another. Regarding advertisements, please refer to the rules (there's a link on the top of each page): 25) Members are forbidden to solicit for or accept donations, gifts etc. for providing such advice to visitors and members. Likewise, it is not permitted to steer or solicit members and visitors to go to locations or businesses where it is necessary to pay for services or assistance. The exception is ThaiVisa.com sponsors, who may reasonably promote themselves. My wife thinks the stalls in front of the 7 probably pay around 4 or 5,000 baht/month in "rent", including electricity for lights etc. I think the ice company brings the cooler for free if you order the Ice.

Thanks for the quote of the rules Phil. Yes I drove there today but thought it was a ways out to attract the most farangs because that will be her customers mostly. I also looked at the market on Soi Khaotalo. I think 5000 per month is expensive to be honest because we could rent a shop-house for that and have seats inside etc. Most of these Thais pay around 1000 baht per month if outside someones place. I just didn't think there was enough farang traffic around SSCC where you mentioned today. I know you mods Raro and Phil just want a nice greasy burger near you, hahhahahah.

May 17, 201313 yr A mate of mine rented the space outside his shop to a Thai lady selling noodles or something - I think he charged 1,500 or 2K per month incl. electric and water. He put a stop to it in the end because he got fed up coming to open up his shop in the morning and finding this greasy sludge on the floor. So my suggestion to your wife would be to make sure she gives the floor a good scrub down every night when she packs up. Regarding location, I reckon if you've got the right product and you do a little marketing, people will find you. There's definitely a market on the darkside for a late night burger stand. A couple of weeks ago I got a hunger on around midnight and had nothing in the house. Didn't fancy any noodles or rice - i needed something with character... something overflowing with cholesterol. Did a 30 minute circuit of the local farang bars that were open and none were still serving food so I ended up unenthusiastically settling for the sultry service and mediocre food at Kiss. If I had known of a late night burger stand in the area I would've been headed straight there. Oh, and if you do go ahead and do something, for a kinda specialist place that people actively seek out on their way home, or make a special effort to get to, if you advertise that you're open 6 days a week you really need to be open 6 days a week, regardless of how you manage to do it. Nothing kills a place quicker than customers making the effort to get to you only to find you're not open when you should be. Good luck with it.
