Thai High School Equivalency - Univ Admission

Featured Replies

My girlfriend would like to attend University here in Chiang Mai, but she needs to complete some previous educational requirements before being admitted. She has been calling around to some local colleges and the best answer she's getting is that there is some program (or school) that she can attend to complete her previous education. The problem is that they are telling us that they don't accept new students until November, It's currently May, and also that it would take her 4 years, even though I don't even think she was missing that much to begin with.

Is there a Thai GED (General Education Diploma) style program like in U.S.A. or something similar? Is there any faster way for her to complete the requirements for admission? She's a bit older (30's) and established, and isn't looking to go back to high school for four years first.

Thanks so much. Any help, or advice is genuinely appreciated.

Yes, this should be possible. I am aware of people who have done it. But you'll have to check it out.

Most direct path is to check with the municipal education office.

Classes were once held at Wat Santitam. Also, there is an education office --- or used to be one --- in back of (to the north) the Chiang Mai library. You can ask there. The library is located on the NW corner of the moat diagonally opposite the moat.

If the university will accept them I would think they might know where she could make the classes up,

Or maybe she could enter as a senior. I know I took some classes just to be taking them in Canada no problem.

I believe there is a place in Chiang Mai that helps teach the GED but the actual test has to be in Bangkok. I will get more information tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks so much everyone, for the helpful information. Richard, that is exactly what I'm looking for. I Google'd and looked everywhere, made some calls, and couldn't figure it out. If you have any info I would be very grateful.

Hi Sparkplug,

They take new students in December. That's the only place in Chiang Mai that I know of. Other than that, you have to study in Bangkok.

Thanks Richard. I think that's the place we contacted then. They told us she couldn't start until December, and that it would take her four years to complete. I was just hoping for other options.

Hi Sparkplug,

Here is the place I told you about.

Anyone else have any input, or know of any other places in Chiang Mai?
