hello,

I will be flying to Udon Thani next week for my Visa Run.

I am looking for an agency anyone can recommend to help me with the details once I get off the plane.

Also cheap but good hotel reccomendations in Udon Thani and Vientiane.

Thank You.

I don't know about an agent.

I stayed right downtown last month at a place called The Irish Clock. Sub 1k, really decent. It's actually a well known farang owned pub with good food and maybe 6 or 8 rooms for one night or more. They have a web site that shows on google.

Edit. I wonder if this would do better in the Isaan section?

I don't think there is an agency to do that.

There are mini buses to the bridge in Nongkai and then you cross the bridge on a shuttle bus.

Pay for a Lao Visa on arrival about 1500 baht or $35 and then a Tuk Tuk or taxi to your hotel or the embassy consular section.

Nothing to it really.

Top Mansion is pretty good, aircon, fridge clean 500 baht save 50 baht if You book on agoda, I don't understand why You need an agent very easy to do Yourself, if You have the forms already filled out it goes very easy

And really no need to stay in Udon unless that is by design. Plenty of hotel rooms in Nong Khai if you are too late to cross to Vientiane; allowing early morning crossing.

Would recommend moving on to Nong Khai as well. In the "arrivals" area of Udon Thain airport you will find the Airport Limosine Service that will take you into Nong Khai for about 200 baht. They will also take you to the Friendship Bridge for the same amount if you want to scoot on into Vientiane the same day.

Ask driver to take you to the mut mee guest house (very popular with the western tourists good spot for a night or two) and then head over the bridge the next day.

The process is really easy so no need for an agency. However if you are not keen on doing anything yourself then there are many people who can do this for you upon your arrival.

I have used the AV Hotel and Mixays Guest house in Vientiane with no problems. But there are many options to choose from. I always like to be near Nam Phu (fountain square) lots of bars and restaurants.

All you really need to know is that:

A, Bring US$35 for crossing Lao border, otherwise they charge B1500 which is more than US$45.

B, You can get a car from the Bridge to the Thai Consulate for between B200-300 if you negotiate. Don't take a Tuk-Tuk, slow, hot and dusty and they'll want the same money.

C, You'll need to be at the Consulate before 11am to leave your passport for picking up the following day after 1pm

D, Bring 2 visa photos and a book to read at the consulate. Get a queue number as soon as you enter.
