I'm in Kata and it's all out. My friend called and said kathu is also out.

How big is it? Hope it isn't serious.

Seems to be island wide. Could be a long one.

Yes, seems to be island wide. Does anyone know how the island is divided to different electricity zones?

I can see Koh Naka in front of my home, at least they have electricity there, but it might come from the generators.

Black out in talang, koh samui, surat, phang nga. Seems like the whole south is out.

Wow the darkside of thailand ! Hope the guys get it working soon !!

Yep, the whole of Samui is off...

My electricity is out, but my wifi router is somehow magically working, so I am able to make this comment :)

Samui out too!whole of south!

Looks like whole of south Thailand

Confirmed with many cities in the south and it's all dark up until prachup kirikan. Reason unknown.

I'm ok in Ao Nang and same same for many of my friends

Phuket Town, Chalong, Koh Kaew and Thalang are three heavily populated areas suffering from the outage, the Phuket Gazette confirmed.

The local electricty authority has confirmed the entire south of the island is also affected.

The Gazette has recived report of a major blackout in Trang, indicating the blackout may be affecting all of Southern Thailand.

The Gazette is investigating the cause of the blackout and will report information as it becomes available.

Wow - the whole of the south is down.

Anyway, I'm sure it will be explained tomorrow that it was all just tsunami drill. :) :)

Just heard reports that power plant in Khanom (NST) has an explosion, but at the same time rumours that something did boom in Songkhla and Trang as well!!! Weird stuff.

Either domino effect of one plant failing, organised attack, or CME hitting earth?

Koh Keaw is out

Now down, as well. I was in jubilation too early

Problem from Bang Saphan.

Krabi too

It's hit 14 provinces. Let's get the air back on.

Might sound crazy - but, could another military coup be happening????

PTP hate the south. Back on now in Ranong

Might sound crazy - but, could another military coup be happening????

If it was they would not black out the people who who cheer for it. They'd black out Issan.

Last report from GF in Hat Yai says power is still out...

Ahhhhh, tourism - foreigners panicing - heading for the airport - ringing their embassy etc etc etc etc.

That said, we haven't got a post from anyone in Issan yet.

Massive power cut hits Phuket and entire South
Tanyaluk Sakoot

PHUKET: -- A massive blackout apparently originating from a fault at the hydropower station at the Rachaphraha dam in Surat Thani blacked out Phuket tonight, along with all provinces to the south.

The blackout started at about 7pm. At 7:50 limited power became available, but it is not clear when full power will be restored.

Phuket International Airport is operating as normal.

Updates when we get them.
