sms747
whats the best (cheapest) way to call an 0845 number on a mobile from Thailand. Be a long call as to the bank and they have you on hold then lots of security stuff to get through before they answer, then usually go away to ask a supervisor! draftvader
Skype will be 8p/minute to 0845. You will need to buy credit. I believe that the cheapest package will be £10. If you need to call this number regularly then this credit does not have an expiry date as long as you use it every 180 days. You can also send SMS with Skype too. I have not looked at using a mobile for this as it will be more expensive. Edited May 28, 2013 by draftvader
TexasRanger
I call my bank using 00944845 etc. Not sure of the actual cost but it is cheaper than dialling direct. On rare occasions it doesn't connect for some reason.

topt
I know Lloyds has an alternative number to its 0845 number if you are calling from abroad - IE a "standard code". It is published on their web help pages. It may be worthwhile checking online to see if you can unearth one for your bank?
Popular Post sumrit
Firstly Banks normally have a standard International number to call which won't incur extra charges, whether you use 009..., 00600... or a voip such as Skype. Another option is to dial '+443335432111' then dial the '08.....' number you want when prompted. From a voip system you will then be charged the standard call rate, so, for example, it will only cost the standard 1.4p per minute instead of 8p when using Skype. For people in the UK you can also use this number and it's even better because it's FREE to call. It's designed primarily to prevent wracking up high charges while waiting in a queue after your call has been answered but it also prevents the high charges some '08....' numbers incur. Also, when using your mobile, not only does it prevent those high charges, because '03....' numbers are free you don't pay anything. Even on PAYG it's a free call. http://www.weq4u.co.uk/ You must be in the UK to download the app onto your mobile but you can use the 03.... number from anywhere. For those preferring to use '009...' if you use this number as well you will only pay the normal 6? baht per minute instead of the higher rate '08...' numbers will incur. Beat me to it! Lots of alternatives to 0845 there which give the landline number. I use it when I call back to UK. Totster
Look on your bank card, most have the 0845 and the 'calling from overseas' number printed on the back somewhere. totster
pattayadingo
What about the banks website - contact us section - do they not list a standard UK number from those calling from overseas? Obviously a lot cheaper than their 0845 numbers. Barclays, for example have the 0854's and also list a number to call from overseas that is obviously a lot cheaper Other option being 'saynoto0870' on the internet to get a number for your bank I still prefer the CAT telecom call card 200 Baht card gets you cheaper rates than a 100 Baht card. To call 0845 is abt 6 Baht per minute but do not quote me on that. To phone a standard land land line is 2 Baht per minute. http://www.thaitelephone.com/EN/calling-card/thailand/catphonenet/index.php

Anon999
Send a secure email to your bank and ask for a direct number to call from overseas, not premium rate. You can always get a card from CAT Telecom that lets you make cheap calls anywhere.

So click on the 'search to find an alternative number' towards the top left of the home page then type tesco into the first option or the 08..... number, if you have it, into the bottom one. Inputting 'TESCO' give you http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php which contains a long list of all Tesco numbers. 08......numbers with any corresponding geographical numbers and a description of which Tesco department etc it will take you to. Inputting 0845 300 3511, the personal finance number, will take you to http://www.saynoto0870.com/numbersearch.php which shows the 08....numbers with geographical alternatives, including 0141 278 7386 which is the geographical number to call when abroad .
