I'm one of those folks that still uses a double edge razor. I am down to my last couple of boxes of blades and am wondering if there is a place or places in CM that sells them. I haven't seen any over the past year or so. While I can get them sent over from the US, I would prefer to buy locally if possible.

Thanks

David

Seriously? Big C/Tesco carries them, to name a couple. I just bought one (and a replacement pack of 5). They're readily available all over the place. Unless I'm misunderstanding you....

You can buy them from the salon supply shop on the outside of the moat, just before you reach Chiang Mai gate if travelling clockwise around the outside of the moat.

The Feather brand are excellent.

Thanks. I'll take a walk over later today.

As for Feather blades, they don't work well for me. No matter how careful I am, I manage to nick myself 2 or 3 times during each shave. Merkur seems to do better as well as a few other brands.

Berkshire, are you thinking of double edge blades like this? http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.shaving-shack.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/razor-blade.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.shaving-shack.com/blog/tag/razor-blades/&h=321&w=480&sz=48&tbnid=374T-pTqPkVn6M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=135&zoom=1&usg=__zoT643UMRZVwfJ1FRyA9zQeiEiU=&docid=HMlPmbw6lrd43M&sa=X&ei=6mykUYGkG8P3rQfgv4HYBQ&ved=0CHMQ9QEwBw&dur=2280 I was just at Big C yesterday looking specifically for them and was told "mai mer."

Apologies, I stand corrected. I was thinking more like the Gillette razors, with the double/triple blades. So no, I've never seen those double edge blades that you're looking for. But then I've never looked.

Not sure if you ever got around to visiting the traditional barbers; but isnt it the double edge ones they use.....snapping them in half and sliding them into their receptor.

they must be so cheap if they can discard them after one use.

if so, can ask them aswell where they buy wholesale.

Great idea eyecatcher. Hadn't even dawned on me that they did that.

Thanks

To be honest David the blade that works best for you seems to be heavily influenced by the razor that you have. I use a Lord brand DE razor that somehow has a forgiving angle/setting and I never cut myself with the super sharp Feather blades - just get a lovely close shave. I have got an old Gillette razor, on the other hand that is deadly with Feather blades in it!

That shop also sells Durco (sp. ?) and another couple of brands. Durco might suit you, they are less sharp than the feathers.

Entirely possible. I use a Merkur 34c so maybe that is why the Merkur blades work so well. It is too bad though. I think the Feather blades are probably easier to find generally.

Philw, you would be wise to use a Schick injector, and then try to shave in a straight line. The Schick injector system is not bad. However, the blades are no longer available from retail. The only blades I have seen are the ones which still exist in stock or are warehoused. I contacted Schick two years ago, from Taiwan, and was told that these blades are no longer available from the company. True or not, I dunno.

The problem with my using the double edge blades is that I can never remember which side I have used more often, which I think is a waste of the blade.

With the single edge injector, I do not need to worry about this. I just shave with the one edge until I can shave no further, and then just inject a new blade.

Simple.

LOL - genericnic is still using an invention from the the early 1900's - something Berkshire has "never seen". One of you needs to get with the times. (oh, but I've had my double edge razor for 50 years and its still good...)

8 baht per 5 pack, any salon or barber supply, shop house, wholesale style, store in Thailand (usually not in department stores), display hair color, lipstick etc in the window and staffed by ladyboys, can't miss them...555

The other point about double edge razors is that they are just too heavy and too big for under the nose in the lip area. I am no weakling, but the double edge razor just seems heavy in the morning. If you are having trouble getting the double edge blades, why not just use the cheap disposable plastic razors like you find provided for free in hotels. Some of these razors are really good and better or on par with anything else. The best ones I have found are provided free to your hotel room in Japan HK and Taiwan, but the one I was given in BKK last time was terrible. It had a really skinny handle that was too slippery, and the blade did nick, or nic.

You can buy double edge razor blades at "Chiangmai Direct" - the big beauty supply shop at the thanin market. It's a large store, lot's of glass, staff, and customers all the time. It's on the inside entrance (or at the back of the market if you are coming from Changpuak - behind the food vendor area and all the atms). They carry Dorco, Feather, and a couple of others I think. We buy them by the box - 100 packets of 5 or so. I like Dorco fine - having used them in both the plastic gillette razor (19 baht) and my new razor,an Edwin Jagger de89bl. My wife prefers Dorco in her beauty shop. You should be able to find the blades in every beauty shop supply store (look for places that sell hair color etc).

I'll qualify my liking Dorco by saying that I often use the same blade for weeks before changing - I wait until I notice a change.

Thank you for this good information. I will switch as soon as the bag of disposables which I brought with me to Thailand is used up. This is a great solution and it looks like I can save money too.

Again, thank you.

If you have razor needs that can't be found here, you can try BladeMail. This UK based supplier carries some hard to get items (in the UK at least) and ships all over the world. Who would have thought you could make a business out of that? smile.png

I have gotten those in big C in Pattaya in their own brand. I also get them in the markets but not a good quality.

The big problem I had was locating shaving brushes and shaving soap for sale here in Thailand. So I purchased via Executive Shaving of Scotland. They provide a good fast postal service, with a full range of all that you may require.

Surprised there's more than one company doing that but I got a badger hair shaving brush and soap from BladeMail as a present a couple of years back and it was great. Out of laziness I defaulted to the can of gel but the old fashioned way was actually much better.

Some people are just fortunate enough to be so young that they have never even seen or heard about what is being discussed here.

I'm surprised anybody still uses these. As a hairy old git I've tried just about everything imaginable in the last 30 years but I could never go back to needing a styptic pencil or bits of toilet paper... Mach 3 for me... :-p
