gerrythepoet
Presently one has to fly via Bangkok to go to an ASEAN city but with the new agreement it seems one will be able to fly direct if leaves from an Interntional airport. Question is does one still have to fly via Bangkok and change planes- a bit confusing since Bangkok would not want to lose out on the landing and departing fees? gerrythepoet
I think this is what he was talking about - http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/blogs/indonesias-stance-towards-asean-open-skies/ Ubon Ratchathani has an International Airport but the flights go via Bangkok During the Vietnam War the facility was known as Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, serving as a front-line base of the United States Air Force. It subsequently became an international civilian airport, with direct flights to Vietnam. These flights proved unprofitable, and while the "international" signage is still in place, only domestic flights have operated for a number of years. How do you fly directly from CNX to Mandalay? I only know of flights going through Bangkok and Yangon?.

SeaVisionBurma
Apologies - you are correct. I thought Air Mandalay might have had flights between MDY and CNX too, but seems not at the moment. I have a feeling that from October one of the carriers will start between Mandalay and Chiang Mai again. I will post further info when I have something solid! SeaVisionBurma
Lo and behold - new article in today mentions Air Mandalay resuming flights between Mandalay and Chiang Mai, expected to be twice weekly. I am especially interested in the possible addition of direct flights between Yangon and Phuket, which would be of great use. Topic thread (with link to full article) are here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/644995-airlines-to-increase-myanmar-flights/ Note: Apologies to the OP for this getting slightly off topic... I went to that thread and the threads linked from there. This thread talks about 2 flts weekly from CNX-RGN: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/616076-chiang-mai-to-myanmar-via-plane/?hl=%2Bair+%2Bbagan#entry6073465 That coincides with what Air Bagan has on their website: http://www.airbagan.com/?q=flight-schedules Their route map and flight schedule do not currently show any flights MDY-CNX. I'll check with their office next time I'm in the neighborhood.
