Unusual Strong Winds In Bangkok Last Night

Featured Replies

Did anyone experience the unusually strong winds last night at around 11 PM ?

We stay in thonglor area on a 11th floor apt.. we usually open the glass windows lil bit with the mesh closed.

We were asleep, and were suddenly woken up at around 11 pm by a strange noise... we woke up to find strong winds basing around.. felt as if the glass might shatter.. went on till 30mins until it subsided..

felt unusual at this time around.

any similar experiences..??

Yes, it was like a hurricane in central Bangkok around 11.15pm. We had three power cuts in a row and the neighbour's tree bent right over and smashed against my air-conditioner on the balcony.

Not just in central Bangkok. I am out by the Rama 9 park well on up soi 103 (Udomsook Rd.) and the winds were the strongest I can remember. Oddly, it occurred by us at the same time you both were experiencing the high winds. We had no rain, just very high winds.

Beg Pardon all. I had radishes for my supper.

My parents are over on holiday with us and said they experienced really strong winds on our balcony about this time. We're near Saphan Kwai (and no, Prof, we hadn't had radishes) IIRC they said that there was rain as well.

I slept through it all!

Yep, I'm in Soi Soon Vijai and it was pretty intense. One second it was quiet, then suddenly really strong wind, rain and powercuts. About 45 mins later all was calm again. Really weird.

Could it have been the "winds of change" :o:D:D

Exactly what my wife said. She said it felt like an omen....

I'm on the 24th floor in Thonglor Area..... and it was scary....... one of them day you wished you were in a house or low rise. ( Earth quakes are the other days ).

Never experienced it like that before

Joking aside it was rather odd. I was waiting for thunder and lightning to come but none did.

It started at about 10:45 here in Latphao and power was lost four times for almost an hour. Very strong winds followed by light rain for a few minutes.

Chaeng Wattana area the same ... sudden high wind, crashing noises then a brief powercut. Never heard wind that strong before in BKK ... even my Thai b/f thought it was a hurricane!

Same here. Nakon Nayok was like a small hurricane coming through. Lasted for about an hour with some heavy rain for about 20-minutes. Thought the trees were going to fall, luckily nothing happened.

Ram Intra, and yes, was just walking my dog and thought the whole roof of the large nursery was about to get lifted. I was just about to bolt inside, but then my wife came out, so I man-ly and slowly walked inside and said 'strong winds, eh?'.

diddo on the high winds on tong lo!

Sukhumvit 39. was indeed very strange. high winds -had to save the laundry- and multiple power cuts.short ones though. no rain but scattered clouds.

:o Some sort of power surge blew our surge protector up. Lucky we had it or the computer would have been down the swannee!

someone told me it was the unsettled spirit of the erawan shrine, but who knows.

At 16:15 in Latphao we are having the strongest rain/winds I ever recall seeing here. Who is messing with mother nature?

And at 16:30 the sun is shinning.

Well, I slept through it again. I've managed to sleep through 3 big earthquakes (in other countries)--not deadly quakes. Now, a really big wind--and all without the help of alcohol. Damned!

Maybe it was Taxin just 'whistling' :o .....trying to scare the protesters?

LaoPo

Or a very powerful 'whisper'.
