I have been on a non-imm B extension for a couple of years. I recently got married, and changed over to a non-imm O (Marriage) visa.

My non-imm B extension was valid until June 21. I arrived back to Thailand on March 3 with my new non-imm O. The date to stay put into my passport was June 2. On June 2, with my 90 days up, I went off to Singapore for the weekend.

On arriving back to Swampy, the date to stay put into my passport was June 21 ... the date of expiry of my non-imm B, which was only 19 days away.

On questioning the date, I found out a couple of things.

- The date put into my passport on arriving on March 3 was actually June 21. I had assumed it was "2/ Jun". The writing (not a stamp) wasn't very clear, and June 2 was 90 days from March 3 (or so I assumed).

- The reason that they put June 21 as the date to stay both times was because the non-imm B overrides the non-imm O.

- They also told me that I can't work on a non-imm O (Marriage) visa.

The last of those points certainly surprised me.

I didn't want to leave again or renew my non-imm B extension on June 21. I convinced them to use my non-imm O visa and give me 90 days stay. They wrote down something in my passport next to the non-imm B extension (along the lines of "I agree that this won't be used") and asked me to sign it.

My work permit has since been extended based on my non-imm O visa.

So, if (for whatever reason) you have more than one valid visa or extension of stay in your passport, triple check which one is being used for your "leave to stay".

Why did you go out and get a O visa? You could of changed from an extension based upon working to one based upon marriage to a Thai if you could of met the financial requirements.

You can get a work permit with a visa or extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. Somebody gave you some wrong information.

You had the problems with the entry dates because you did not cancel your extension of stay based upon working.

I was out (in Feb-Mar) anyway. I have a multiple entry non-imm O.

But, it was difficult to get clear information before I got the non-imm O.
